I have had an XS for about 7 weeks now using FaceID. Yea, it works great, but still annoying when I just want to touch the phone to activate phone - and it wants faceID of course. Nice phone, but really does not seem like an upgrade from IP7.

Thinking I will sell it and get an IP8.

Or maybe just turn off the security all together?

Am I crazy, or what am I missing?

If you prefer Touchid your only option is an older phone like the 7/8. You’re not crazy, you just have a preference.

I had the XS Max from launch and a couple of days ago I went out and purchased an 8 Plus.
Don’t get me wrong the XS is a brilliant device and Face ID works well but I missed Touch ID too much and I personally prefer the ratio of the Plus screen.

You can deactivate the “require faceid to read notifications” feature, I think it’s annoying and disabled it on mine, and the phone works just like I’m used to.

If you think an 8 would be a better phone for you, go right ahead...

Talking of battery life.....at least on an 8 you can see the percentage remaining without a swipe down.
I NEVER got used to that on the XS!

Why do you say that? The XS has a bigger battery than the 8 so of course you’ll lose battery performance when switching. The XS has a 2658mAh battery where as the 8 has 1821mAh. Quite a difference...
The Xs also has the screen that uses less power (I forgot the name “amoled?”) so that will also help with the better battery life side of things.

I thought he meant in the context of, it will fall 25%-30% relative from what the 8 should be, due to Apple's battery drain creep that each OS update seems to bring :D.

Although comparing XS to 8, yes you're right it should be worse, even considering the proportionally larger screen.

I had a 6+ for 3 years. In Dec switched to the XSmax. 2 phones are same size. And that’s where the similarity stops. No comparison between the 2. XS is a whole other level. Really like FaceID, especially as a security feature on a number of financial sites apps. I thought I’d miss the Touch ID. I don’t. Also, much better camera and great screen resolution. Will not go back. Pricey, but light years ahead of older phones.

If it was me, If you deactivate face ID strictly because you didn’t like it, which would revert you to using your passcode every time, which I would find annoying. And I would rather just opt for the iPhone 8 if you really prefer touch ID that much.
