In persona non grata
It's probably been done before, but it's Memorial Day night, there isn't squat on TV, and the wife is being moody.

So, what are some of your all time favorite movies?

I'll start off with a few of mine, in no particular order.

1. "The Quiet Man", John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara
2. "The Shootist", John Wayne, Ron Howard, Jimmy Stewart, Lauren Bacall
3. "Jeremiah Johnson", Robert Redford
3. "Little Big Man", Dustin Hoffman
4. "Far and Away", Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman

And because I don't want you to think I'm elitist:

5. "The Toxic Avenger", no idea of the actors names. Terrible script, horrible cinematography, acting, and special effects, but lots of gratuitous T&A and gore. Gotta love that.

Casablanca

Strictly Ballroom

Dear Frankie

I've got others, but their level of favouritude depends on my mood swing.

In no order and from the top of my head (be interesting to pull up my old fave lists to see if anything changed...)

Truman Show
Labyrinth
South Park Movie
The Dark Knight
Joe Dirt

The Big Lebowski
Shaun of the Dead
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Wall-E
The Royal Tenenbaums

High Fidelity

Black Hawk Down

A lot of great movies being listed! Have to comment on a few!

Shaun of the Dead

Loved this and "Hot Fuzz" with the same actors.

Starship Troopers

"Starship Troopers"? "STARSHIP FRIKKING TROOPERS"? Are you kidding me? This was so bad an adaption of a great book that the author, Robert Heinlein, crawled out of grave to bitch slap the screenwriter AND the director! (YMMV).

A few more.

"Shawshank Redemption", I know, I know, but I will watch it every time it's on.

"Hudsucker Proxy".

"Dirty Harry", every once in a while, some M*****F***** just has to die.

Kevin Costner or Kurt Russell. ( Both are good, but Kurt Russell version ROCKED! "Oh My God!")

Classic!

I believe the Kevin Costner version is called Wyatt Earp. Great Movie, but its really long.

Jesus Christ Superstar

Here goes, for starts:

Gladiator
...
Casino Royal
...
Ocean's 11 and 13

Oh yeah - now we're talking. Gladiator didn't get anywhere near enough kudos when it came out. Oceans 12 was a bit crap (well, a lot, given how good 11 was)

Of course, a session with The Dude is always a good session.

I got to the bottom of this thread thining "please no one say it..." and thank GOD no one has said Cloverfield. (Worst. Film. Ever)

My guilty pleasure - it was straight to TV, and utterly utterly crap in every possible way...The Langoliers

Hmm... This is like trying to name your favourite song. It's just so hard.

Akira
Requiem For a Dream
Nosferatu (Herzog version)
Metropolis
M
Romero's Dead series (except Diary)

The list could go on and on but I'm on my iPhone...
