hahaha, great comment on the page: "great story, glad you got your phone back. you're lucky you didn't get shot in the face." Seriously, no kidding..

I would have done the same thing. I also might've gone back to the restaurant that night and asked the guy's manager if he knew/cared that he was employing a thief.

I am saddened that no one has commented on this.

And that was an epic story. I would feel proud haha.

i was questioning paying the 100$ for mobile me (my trial is up in a month), but this story totally made it worth it!

I know 5 other guys who have an iphone at college and we have agreed to buy a mobileme account between ourselves just for the idisk and the find my iphone feature.
You can have you mobile me account on as many iphones as you want thus find my iphone can track all of them.
£10/year is not bad for around 3.5gb of online storage for stuff that you may need on school computers as well as a back up for incase you loose your iphone

We laughed triumphantly, adrenaline racing, feeling like the Jack Bauer trio. (Disregard the fact that we'd just left a Lego convention.)

That made me LOL - best sentence! Glad you found it - what a hell of a chase.

Now looking into actually getting MobileMe.....

Question: If the guy who lost hte iPhone had remotely wiped his phone after trying to get a response from the thieve first time round, could he still locate the iPhone ?

So, the iPhone has been restored, but can it still be tracked from me.com ?

Great story but I think it's bulls$%#. Has all the trappings of a geek Internet hoax.

I've never gotten as good location as the screenshots there with my location on the phone or via Find My iPhone.

Good story though.

They should have went to the police. What if the guy who took it had a gun?

Amazing. Good story telling, it sucked me into it totally. Being from Chicago, I know how some of those neighborhoods can be scary.

I was half-hoping to get to the tracking part of the story and see something about how one of his friends had just updated his carrier file so he could tether the macbook to his iphone.

Edit: not the stolen iPhone, but he said one of his other friends had an iphone with him too.

Who said anything about racism?

Look up xenophobia and racism, then come back here with an apology.

.....and what do you mean, YOU people? ;)

Then what would you have meant by xenophobic? Xenophobia is fear of what is different or unknown. What else besides racism would have been referring to in the story?

and if you check the wikipage of xenophobia the See Also links mention Racism by country first as well as genocide and nativism. And THAT is not a coincidence.

xenophobia |ˌzēnəˈfōbēə; ˌzenə-|
noun
intense or irrational dislike or fear of people from other countries : racism and xenophobia are steadily growing in Europe.
