For the record, I have a 12.5mm drive in my Late '08 Unibody, so it is likely that these will fit in all Unibodies.

Do you have a 17inch MBP, as they will fit in those, but not the 15inch or 13inch MBPs.

Exactly what I've been waiting for WD! I've been waiting to have a bus powered 1TB drive forever.

Now, all I have to do is wait, a long time considering in Australia everything comes several months later.

At 333GB on a single platter an ultra fast Black edition in 320 and 640 variants must be just around the corner.

So at what point are SSD capacities going to catch up to HDDs? I'm guessing it'll be time for a new computer before that happens, not to mention before they're affordable. I've got 27GB free, but I worry how quickly that'll disappear if I make a few more home movies.

The Black edition didn't benchmark much faster than the Blue. It was way closer than everyone thought.

Yes, that's because the current gen Black 2.5's are based off 160 and 80gb platters. A single platter 320gb black will easily beat the current 500gb Blue that is offered.

So when does everyone think they will make one that fits in a 13" MBP?

I've never heard of a 5,200 RPM drive. Typically they're 4200, 5400, or 7200 (with 4200 very uncommon these days).

Typo?

Okay, so what is the definitive answer?

Will 12.5mm drives work in my 17" uMBP? I want to order two 1TB drives ASAP. I use an optibay, I know it will fit in there.

Maybe by Christmas? I don't know. If what people are saying is true, I'd bet on a 640GB drive coming pretty soon. I think I'll still wait for a 350GB+ SSD to replace mine. Let the technology mature and get cheaper. I'm running out of things I can do to speed my computer up (can't replace CPU or video, RAM is maxed at 3GB), so anything to make it live longer would be spiftacular.

Why do they even make these thicker drives that don't fit in most laptops?

I can create a 2.5" drive with 50TB that is two stories tall, but what the hell for?
