Just preordered my 32gb 3GS....
And I've never felt more ripped off.

bad move apple.
Darn subsidies.

But you still bought. This shows why they wont change there prices because just like I said MILLIONS will still buy. You may feel ripped off, but companys actually try and make money these days.

Apple doesn't control when you get subsidies. It isn't their fault. You wanted to upgrade early, so the egg's on your face.

Why did you do it then? No one was forcing you. You must've really wanted it, so put a smile on your face and get over it. Look on the bright side, no contract!

well

if it's simple if it's worth it too you then buy it, if not then don't. if Apple told you too jump of the bridge would you? So Enjoy your new 3GS and have a good cry in your beer opps I mean Milk! and oh yeah apple will have another model next year!

There is more than just the hardware. Dont you think that the advance to the iPhone and its OS cost money?
yes, but when the ipt costs like a third the price, somethings up

a camera, gps and what not do not make up 2/3 the iphone costs

But the iphone has a camera, all the cellphone/data stuff, and a microphone/ ear piece, vibration. All these things bring the cost up.

but increase it by that much?? to 763 vs like the 300 for an ipt? i strongly doubt it

I just ordered a 32GB iPhone 3G S on eBay for $725 including overnight shipping so it will get to me on Saturday the 20th. Why did you pay $763?

That's about what the iPhone costs in Europe, where they sell it without a contract.

The cost covers the research and development of the cellular system within the phone. Did you know they have to build special rooms that block radio signals to test cell-phones in? Not only are the rooms and equipment very expensive, think of the types of people you have to hire to run stuff like that. I doubt they come cheap.

I'm sure the phone-part of the iPhone delelopment is a huge, huge number that the iPod doesn't have to worry about at all.

That's a great point - as you say, there's much more to developing an iPhone than just slapping a cellular board into an iPod touch :)

I think in general unsubsidized phones are a great idea and worth the money because you normally get complete freedom with them (i.e. you can go to any provider you want).

However, I'm not so sure about buying an unsubsidized phone that is locked to a single carrier...

How dare you bring up the fact that a product's final retail cost is not just a sum of the component costs!
