Skittle is stuck in headphone jack

Hi Everyone,

I have a dried skittle stuck in my headphone jack, and can not get it out for anything. My MacBook Pro thinks that there is a headphone in the jack, but there isn't so it doesn't play any sound from my speakers. Anyone know how I can fix this? I was looking to disable digital out but don't know how.

take the battery out , unplug it , use rubbing alcohol to soften it and remove it with a toothpick.
 
I know skittles ... I'm wondering how this happened. They're bigger than a headphone jack. Pics are in order.
 
1. The skittle was crushed while I placed my macbook pro inside my backpack (they fell out)

2. I can't take a picture because its deep in the back, so you can't really see it.

You can't really see anything because palm pre cam is ****** quality but you can see the red light coming from the headphone jack
 
Vaccum it out?

If you are brave.
Straw. And well, your mouth. Don't shallow it.
 
I would try to use a toothpick then maybe some tweezers to pull it out when its close enough to the surface to grip.

i am a paramedic and this reminds me of doing ER rotations and people coming in with Various objects stuck in the behind.

they come in the ER complaining about a stomach ach and when the Dr. gets there they pull them close and say, "I dont have a stomach ach, I have a Smurf figurine stuck in my...."
 
I have kids, so I believe almost anything like this can happen. :D

I would try using a needle or thin paperclip. You can use a match to make the tip hot and it will go through the Skittle. There is some risk involved in getting it out...
 
I nearly pissed myself laughing at all of the replies on this thread! :D

The comics of macrumors, I love it! Anyway OP, I think I would try tweezers first (if you have ones that will fit). Be very careful not to break anything in the jack, because at this point you have a simple issue, poking and prodding the jack would not help.

On the same token, you have done a scientific experiment, can a skittle pass some sort of electric current through it... Apparently it can, otherwise the laptop would still be playing sound through your speakers!
 
i've had similar problems with stuff in headphone jacks.

When using a needle or toothpick theres a risk of pushing the object further into the headphone. So always start with the sharpest thing. And in you case, a warm needle is even better.

So heres what you do:

Take a needle, and warm it for a few seconds with a lighter or something.

Dip it in superglue and then put it into the skittle.

Now wait for the glue inside to dry

Put some glue on the needle where it meets the skittle, so that the glue helps the skittle to stick with the needle.

Wait for the glue to dry

And then carefully take out the skittle. Use all kinds of vacum stuff to help it out.

Just get a eyebrow plucker thing and use it to pull the bits out. While your doing this have a vacum on (here in the uk we call it HOOOOOVER!) and use the nozel part and keep it on while your moving the thing about, it will pull al the little bits out and probably the whole thing when its been moved about.

If no eye brow plucker things get a tooth pick or something. (Dont use metal ones tho..you can get plastic ones I think, obviously no metal incase it shorts the machine in some way)
 
I'm just baffled as to how the skittle completed the circuit in the headphone jack.

Wouldn't it have to be carrying a current? And umm... skittles are, well, skittles.
