Hey guys...I just returned my 32GB Zune HD (for various reasons) to Amazon. Now, I'm ready for an iPod Touch (my first since the 1st Gen 8GB). You think I should pick up the 32/64GB now, or wait for the next refresh? The camera would be nice, but I'd love to get one in HD.

Also, besides the over beaten argument over the camera -- is there anything else I should know about the new iPod Touch? Can the 3.1 Software be jailbroken yet?

I think you'd probs be a bit crazy to wait for a refresh - no real evidence you're gonna get a camera this year.

You could always go for the iphone 3gs if you want a camera bad?

way to go!, to stick it to the middle man! and Zune!
hahaha

get the ipod touch 64GB

and so far wikipedia.com has stated that the ipod touch 3G can't be jailbroken yet....:D

I'd be interested in learning the reasons behind the return of the Zune.

Personally I would go for the 64gb, mainly because you get double the memory for $100 more. I went for the 64 since I am always wanting more memory. Since the 32 and 64 are identical it really boils down to the memory.

Basically, theres one huge reason for me to get rid of it. Search. There is no universal search feature for the Zune HD. If I wanted to find a song that started with "U", and I had 3200 songs on my Zune & didn't know what the album/artist was. I'd be stuck going all the way to the end of my list with my finger. (This happens alot with new trance/house songs, I know the song, but not the artist/album)

I have some other reasons though too.

Maybe because the slow web browsing that people are saying? Or maybe he's used to how the Ipod Touch works? :p
It wasn't just that it was semi-slow. It was using INTERNET EXPLORER 6

Fair point. With the original Zune, if you wanted to listen to the Zutons, you had to scroll down the list all the way to the end (at the speed the Zune wanted to go). Navigating around a large music collection was just torture.

A guy going by Greenpoison is working on a 3G jailbreak, and says it's possible on 3.1. Hopefully he'll release it soon.

So, so far you guys think I should just get the iPod Touch now?

My options are:

Wait for the iPod Touch 32GB w/ Camera
Get the 32GB Touch
Get the 64GB Touch

Do you really want an iPod with a camera, or are you happy with the camera on your cellphone?

Get the 32GB Touch

Have you got a large music collection?

Get the 64GB Touch

Have you got a huge music collection?

Just my oversimplified answer to your conundrum.

I'd say get one now. It's not worth the wait for a camera, even if you want to have the latest and greatest. It's so much faster and the new LCD panel is more vibrant that before. I remember on my 1G, the colors were "cold" and had a bluish tinge. The 2G (which I recently owned/sold) panel is very "warm" and had a yellowish tinge. The new 3G has no tinge of any color.

I'd get it now and if you can get the 64gb. Youll have room for anything and it will have the highest resall value.

I wouldn't hold my breath for the camera. Just get something that will do you good, perhaps a refurbished model.

Seriously, if Apple puts a camera into the iPod Touch, then the iPhone sales will go down. They put it in the Nano to screw around with people, so people can go ahead and say "Hmm, should I buy the iPod Touch or Nano? I really want a camera, but I want to be able to run apps as well. I think I'll just buy both" xD

Go for the 64gb touch. I Picked up the last one in stock from my "local" apple store on saturday and it kicks ass! After I put all my music and pictures on it I was using 30 gigs of space so having the 64 is awesome since it's not going to hold me back from putting all my content on it right away like the 32gb would have. But that's just me. Different strokes for different folks right?

How can you avoid this?

1. So, people buying iPhone instead of iPod Touch are doing so because of the camera? I doubt it.

2. People who want the iPod Touch are now asking themselves if they should opt for Nano instead of Touch because of the camera? I doubt it.

The Zune HD has alphabet search. Apparently the OP never noticed. Music>Songs> Tap an icon to bring up the alphabet, then tap U (or Z) to jump to all the songs beginning with U (or Z), or if none exist then the next closest letter among your songs.

The Touch does a fine job too. Either device is great.

yeah, but if you are just scrolling you can't automatically get the letters up to select, you have to get to the nearest beginning of a letter.

I decided to keep my zune hd, because as a media player its awesome compared to the touch. The sound quality and screen of the zune kick butt! As far as internet and apps, the touch is better though. I have trouble with the zune connecting at my university for crying out loud! I also have faith microsoft will get it together and it will turn out pretty good.

I'll probably go back to the iPod touch next September, when i predict they'll add the camera, but not add any more storage. They might lower the prices a little, but i plan on picking up a 64 gb then. Until next September, though, i'm happy with my iPod Classic and Zune hd.

The Zune HD does indeed have a search function (letter search) which is really handy. If the OP returned the Zune HD because of this, it's kind of ironic. :D
