Has anyone tried the 7950 mac edition under any version of 10.6?
    If so, does it work?

Why should it? I think there are no matching drivers.

Who will next years Indy 500 Winner be?

For Apple to have included device id's for products 2 years in future would have required this sort of ability

I think if one uses the 64-bit kernel perhaps Snow Leopard would work?

Ok I got my 7950 mac edition in. The good news is I can still get into 10.6 and see stuff.

The bad news. I only have one resolution to choose from( my 2560 x 1440 ). Also screen capture and grab both did not want to capture a picture which I think is weird.

Also I would like to add that it did identify the card and properly. I assume the lack of resolutions and the screen capture/ grab utilities did not work because of this as well.

Im going to try later to boot to 10.7 and force it to install into 10.6.
