My invoice says 88028, so no chance of getting a revised one then? Since I'd have to physically fly over to the UK to have it exchanged :(

I just exchanged mine due to proximity sensor and yellowish tint when taking pics. The new "black box" phone has 7S026 as the serial number. My old phone had the #85025. Interesting...

7R, 7S, 7T and 7U are all Apple factory lines / factories. These were the lines that made most (all?) of the original (1st-gen) iPhones. I suspect they still make some (obviously, since some people's phones are from some of these lines), but to keep up with demand Apple has added many more high-volume lines, which are the 80-88 ones. I'm sure there are others.

I would not read much into this. The production week is much more important than the factory in which it was made, at least if you're trying to imply that there is a difference between 8X and 7X iPhone 4s with respect to the signal attenuation issue.

As far as I know, week 28 is the most recent production week. Some of the people claiming to have "revised" iPhones have serial numbers from week 28. I still think this is all bogus. If Apple were to revise the iPhone slightly they would inform their customers that if they are having problems they can replace the phone for a revised one.

Hmm, strange, I just realised that we are in week 28 now, but my phone was shipped on the 8th of July.

i have 7R026, and there seems to be only one difference:
My friend has the serial number starting with 8, and when he holds death grip it stays "no service". When I try the death grip, it goes from 4 to 1 in about 1 minute, then searching for about 5 seconds, then 1 bar, then 5 seconds and it goes searching and it keeps doing that. Is it just my experience or are serial #8 also going from searching to 1 and back and forth?

Just got mine (7/15)

I had reserved one last week at my local Apple Store. It arrived today and I went to pick it up after work. I'm surprised that it's a brand new shipment and, yet, it's a 86022.... !!!!

I normally only get 1-2 bars at home so I can't tell from here if it has the death grip problem; I will try from work tomorrow.

Anyone with the 7 serial numbers, is there any physical difference you can see?

Like the more matte finish to the metal band or seeing the proximity sensor more clearly?

Compared my 8 serial numbered phone to a replacement 7 serial numbered phone my boss received and both still look exactly the same. The 7 serial numbered one actually looked a little bit poorly constructed compared to mine. But that's just a comparison of one phone.

So I reserved mine at my local Apple store 7/6, picked it up 7/13 and now I'm surprised that I have a serial number starting with 87021. Can't wait to hear what is said tomorrow.

I initially had a 88022 series that got replaced today in a Genius bar because of the "no SIM" error - apparently it dropped 43% of my calls...
The new one is a 7S026 series. Looks similar to the previous one, just as black and shiny, and the antenna finish is just as matte.
Hope this one works !
