Today I made my daily check of the refurb page and discovered that the 3GHz 8-core Mac Pro is now available refurbished for only $3,399 - $600 off list and $250 off educational. That's with 2 x 512MB sticks of ram. It's priced only $100 more than the 3GHz 4-core refurbished model and $1200 more than the 2.66GHz model which remains the value leader at $2,199.

So rounding up a few dollars each, the range of prices for the 8 core is now:

    $3,200 Developer Store (-$800)
    $3,400 Refurbished Store (-$600)
    $3,650 Educational Store (-$350)
    $4,000 Retail Store

Hope this portends the revision sooner than later.

Pretty Sure This Is The First Day It's Ever Been Listed On The Refurb Page

To the best of my knowledge this is the first time it's appeared on the refurb page. :)

Thanks for the heads up, Multimedia.

Since the refurbs go quick, I'm posting a screen shot for everyone's future reference.

Took little more than 100 days to go refurb. Tuesday August 7 will be Mac Pro's first anniversary.

I guess if they did update the iMacs that day, it would also be nice to have the ability to use the built in display as a display for other machines without affecting the running of the iMac at the same time. Could have a Mac Pro connected to it running calculations or rendering video and switch to it from your iMac display to check on it every so often.

Assuming they switch to aluminium, it would look awesome next to the Mac Pro.

Indeed. My dream is they have removable sections on the back of the imac that you can remove the cover and put in ram, or hard drive, or superdrive without taking the whole display apart. All aluminum and a new stand, no more duck foot. Can't wait to see the new keyboard too.

That is a very nice deal.

Still a bit too expensive for me anyway.

Hell 4-cores is more then enough for me.
