I am gonna upgrade my 8 today. What should I get? I like my home button and the thumb ID for Apple pay. But the home button is a thing of the past so I may need to move on.

I'm going to stick with my 8. Even though the Xr is a nice phone, colorful and all that, I don't like its larger size and missing home button. Nor do its other features interest me.

It’s time to let go of the home button. It actually was way past time on Apple part.

Hallelujah they finally did. Wouldn’t use phone with home button if you paid me.

Natural progression of things and all.

I’d use an Android if you paid me lol. I can’t say I dislike any feature that much on my iPhone and the home button may be dated in terms of appearance, it’s still a fast and easy to use feature that doesn’t impact the user experience.

I love Touch ID and do prefer it to Face ID but I don’t miss having a home button. I’m so used to swiping now.

I like the Xr better because it’s got an improved camera with stereo audio recording capability and it’s a good size compromise between a Plus and a regular 8 in my opinion. I have only an Intel based AT&T 8 Plus to compare it to but my Xr has performed much better for me as a phone, too.

I did keep my 8 Plus and thought I would end up returning the Xr but instead my 8 Plus ended up getting loaned out to different family members for awhile. I’ve got it back at the moment.

I moved to a XR about a week ago. Hated face id , you have to double tap lock button to use apple pay which is an absolute joke. Moved back to my 8 plus and loving it again, will keep for at least another year.

I can see why some people (especially elderly people) like the old design style but it’s actually faster to navigate the phone WITHOUT the home button.

The XR’s screen is huge and has the best battery life of an iPhone to date. Great camera, stereo speakers...

iPhone XR > iPhone 8+

Hi OP, if apple keeps to it’s usual release cycle, we are going to see new iPhones in September. It’s slightly more than 2 months away. Might be a good idea to wait if your iPhone 8 is still serviceable.

Definitely not trying to be dismissive, but a quick visit to Apple‘s website would easily show you the differences of what you’re considering versus asking someone on here. Also, there are multiple threads discussing the differences between these phones if you search the iPhone forum.

With my 8 plus i lay my phone on card reader and it scans my thumb. Face id adds in an extra step for no good reason.
I use apple pay at least 3 times a day so it was a deal breaker.
From memory, I’m pretty sure you have to press the home button twice to active Apple Pay in the first place?

Well 64GB is fine for my needs and I lived for a long time with 2GB of RAM with the iPhone 8.

Perhaps.... But I am happy with the XR.

I love mine! So much better without the home button it just takes getting used to Face ID.

Love my XR too but FaceID is not much of an improvement. You still have to swipe to get to the home screen and it only works if you stare to it in the right angle. TouchID trough the display like some Android phones would be much more effective....
