I have an 8 plus myself and was wondering if there was others who are thinking of getting the new X not the plus sized, and think there will be any changes to this year's x, externally.

If it doesn't have a home button, I'm not buying it. My 8+/7+ may be my last iPhone purchase ever.

As much as I’d like to agree with you, I think home button is not coming back and there’s no real option for me other than iPhone, so yeah whatever they release. If it’s good enough, I’ll get it. If not then I’ll just use this one as long as I can.

‘Externally’ hardware changes are not something that should be expected on an annual basis, especially given Apples iPhone history. In theory, the 2018 iPhone X should resemble the 2017 iPhone X, but the changes should be more inward with upgrades,
Camera and Face ID improvements.

Will likely upgrade to an X+. Hate the notches, but want a camera update. Too many memories every day to not have the best camera in my opinion. Would go to the base 6.1 but looks like it’s not going to have dual camera, and I don’t want a 5.8 that’s smaller than my 8+.

I’ve got an 8+ and I’m thinking I’ll go for an X+.

The standard sized X will be too small to go to from an 8+ for me I think.

I’m also hoping being on the IPhone Upgrade Program will help me when it comes to pre ordering.

Am I allowed to answer? Not upgrading this year or maybe next. Not because I "hate the notch" or love the home button or whatever. I just want to get off the upgrade every two years (astonished at those who can upgrade every year unless they have some kind of upgrade plan) cycle.

I want to keep my 7 plus as long as I can, I'll even pay Apple full price for a battery change when the time comes.

Edit: typos arggg

...definitely me!!

My 8 Plus is my very first 'Plus' sized phone and although the size is great for usability, over the past year, pocketability of the 8 Plus has really got on my nerves so much so that I will 100% be upgrading to the iPhone X this year, OR, the X Plus if the size is bigger than the current X and smaller than the 8 Plus....

Why astonished about people upgrading every year?! That’s as normal as upgrading every other year. Just depends on what works for different type of people.

Well fair enough, just musing on the cost of upgrading plus a mild case of guilt about consumerism (which I am a full participant in) and replacing functioning gadgets frequently. But for a lot of folks yearly upgrades work well for them.

I mean my old HP desktop dated from 2010 before I upgraded early 2017 when it was in already dire shape, although I cheaped out in my options at the time IIRC, then putting in a graphic card that was not the most compatible for the hardware a couple of years later. Some friend's experiences with Macs were really good for longevity - I am pretty sure my iMac will do well *knocks on wood.*

Mobile phones and in particular smartphones have a much shorter life-cycle.

Yes, I'll be moving to the X Plus from the 8 Plus. Not a huge fan of losing the home button but my fingerprints have always been unreadable (not just by the iPhone) so FaceID will give me a much better logon success rate. Besides, it's time to move on to the full screen (notch not withstanding), I don't think we're going back at this point.

Not upgrading this year. Maybe not next. I have an 8 and whilst I love it, nothing this year is going to be upgrade worthy and tbh I can’t see anything blowing me away next year either.

I’m an 8 Plus user and I think I’m going to change for the 5.8 sized refresh of the current iPhone X.

I’ve had two plus sized iPhones now and much as I do like the screen size, the practicality, for me, just isn’t working anymore. It’s been more noticeable recently as the UK has had the closest thing to a decent summer for many years. When wearing shorts most days I’ve really noticed how pocket unfriendly the device is.

dont think ill ever have a plus size phone again after going to the X

X = im carrying all screen thats just as big as a 8plus screen - (yeah 8 plus is wider blah blah blah but X is taller)
8+= carry screen + bezels

portability was an issue for me also...

updated X and updated watch for me.

Good point. For me lately though it's been more of a device I tend to just carry from place to place rather than putting it in a pocket, which I almost never do anymore.

I've also had the 7 and 8 plus and like a few have said it's nice having the screen size and the battery life but the size and weight of the plus is awkward and annoying,it's grand if your at home, but it's not going to be convenient for people traveling or out alot, that's why I'm thinking of going for the new X and the new iPad.

I share your opinions, especially being Face ID is clearly Apples future and the notch is their trademark, which is no issue for me. But most importantly, I *want* the larger display and larger battery with the 6.5 iPhone X, even though I gather it will be that much more cumbersome to carry in the pocket, but it is what it is.

I think it's really only starting to sink with me now, I have a 8 plus, I want to downgrade in size, as I've said already the plus is not mobile friendly, footprint and weight, I've seen YouTube videos of people that have switched back to the plus or switched to Android, and there is less than honest people that praise because they have ponyed up for the x, the thing that held me back about the x in the first place was the notch/gestures/software experience, now what's coming in September is the exact same thing only big and small, I definitely wouldn't go for the x plus, its just to much this time, especially as we know it's about same size but will be heavier, what to do? There will be no option for anyone that doesn't dig the x design

100% agree with you.
[doublepost=1531832831][/doublepost]...is the new X likely to be bigger than the current X but smaller than the 8 Plus though?

I have a 8+ 64G. I know I am getting the highest storage available as I take more photos and download more music and podcasts than I used to. I am undecided between the regular 8 (which I assume will get a lower price), the newest X or an x+.

I love my son's X, but I can't imagine going down from a plus. I want a camera update- that's always the reason I update. I hope we do see a good plus size next month.

There is a middle-ground in terms of screen size but that particular model is looking to be a more budget oriented device with lower specs than the current 8 Plus.

This has happened with me also, but more out of necessity than choice. It’s also been more noticeable of late as I’ve lost quite a substantial amount of weight and smaller clothes have smaller pockets.
