I've had my X for a little over 24 hours so its still quite early to give final impressions but heres what I noticed off the bat:
- Screen size difference. The X screen is basically a taller iPhone 7/8 screen. Coming from a 7+/8+, I miss the width. This has been my biggest adjustment so far.
- Body size. The X feels really nice in the hand. It's a welcoming change holding the X vs. the Plus models. I never had an issue with the Plus but once you hold the X, it just feels more comfortable. (This may vary on your hand size. Mine are medium so people with larger hands that find the Plus perfect will feel the X is too small.)
- Screen quality. I've never owned a Samsung OLED device so I have no previous experience. The X screen is pretty sweet. Not mind blowing like some made it out to be, in my opinion. Everything on the screen seems to "pop" out a bit more compared to my Plus.
-Face ID. Getting used to Face ID and the new gestures was a lot more intuitive than I originally thought. I figured it would take me a couple days to become familiar but it took a lot less than that. It's almost second nature about 24 hours in.
Two main problems I've encountered are I sit at a desk for work and the phone is on the desktop to the right of me. With TouchID, i can put my finger on and voila, phone is opened and I can use it. With FaceID, i physically have to pick up the phone for it to unlock. I ended up just swiping up and entering my numerical code to unlock (Yes, i have Require Attention turned off). An annoyance to say the least. Secondly, I put on my reading glasses laying in bed last night, and the phone didn't unlock with FaceID. Will FaceID learn over time?
Final thoughts: The X so far seems to be a really good phone. Lightning fast and comes with the newest features. The taller and narrower screen compared to the Plus is a negative, for me. Deal breaker? Probably not and I'm slowly getting used to it. The X feels great in the hand and fits comfortably in the pocket, you can barely feel it there. The Plus is definitely noticeable when its in my back or front pocket.
The X isn't for everybody and to be honest, I'm more excited for the bigger X Plus next year. The current X has what I always wanted from Apple, edge to edge screen. Right now, its almost there but I think i'll be really satisfied with a bigger version of what is now.
