Hey! I recently got the iPhone 8 and I love it, the only thing that bugs me is the fairly short battery life.

I was wondering if there is really any difference between the regular 8 and the 8 plus? Does the plus last longer? Is it worth upgrading to plus if I want more battery?

Many thanks!

There is a big difference between the 2 devices yes. My wife has the 8 and I have the 8+ and where she has recharge hers by the evening, I can stretch mine over 2 days.

I’m actually contemplating giving my iPhone Pro to our son and sticking with my 8. After a month of use I don’t like the form factor of the Pro. I much much prefer the 8. Problem is like the OP said the battery life in the 8 sucks. The 8+ is too big for me I hate big phones.

I know right! The 8 has the perfect design in my opinion. It’s just the battery life... damnit

Big phones aren’t to everybody’s tastes and there are still occasions where I find the 8+ a complete pain. My wife will be keeping her 8 beyond her current contract as she hates big phones too. The iPhone 11 although smaller than the 8+ is still too large for many.

the battery life can last all day if you don't use it much but i always have to charge it when i go to bed

Apple's website says the 8 Plus is good for 14 hours of video playback (yeah right) and the 8 is good for 13 hours of video playback (even more of a yeah right)

The overall battery impression using a plus phone over a regular phone is the Plus lasts a lot longer. Not 2X longer, but definitely noticeable.

Use a smart battery case and you won’t have battery issues
This is actually a pretty good option, OP. You'll lose a lot of money replacing your device is it's no longer returnable.

If you can return your 8, then do that and get the one you want.

The varying answers show the core of the matter: it completely depends on how you use it.

The 8 Plus has a bigger battery with the same connectivity and same CPU (but slightly more RAM). The larger screen consumes more power, and places more demand on the GPU.

If your phone spends the day idle with the screen off, then the 8 Plus will last noticeably longer. If you spend the day doing comparable tasks with the screen on (i.e. watching videos or playing games), then the battery benefit of the 8 Plus will decrease, down to Apple's spec that they're roughly the same.

I have used a 6s on iOS 9 and a 7+ on iOS 10. In my experience and with my use, the 6s lasted around 6.5-7 hours of usage if used with higher brightness and LTE, whilst indoor use with lower brightness and Wi-Fi would net me 7.5 to 8.5 hours.
The 7+ would get me around 10 hours of usage with LTE and higher brightness (give or take 30 mins), and indoor use would get me around 12 hours (again, give or take 30 mins).
So around 50% more with outdoor and indoor use.
The battery life is similar in the 8 and 8 plus, so you can expect more or less the same difference.
