If Apple would only produce enough phones at launch, there would be no scalping. I guess you're right, it can't be stopped.
Read some of the news stories. Scalper teams were showing up by the dozens. Get a couple to show up super-early in a major city at flagship Apple Store. Before launch, invite 10 or 20 of your "friends" to stand with you. Ringleader hands you cash after you get your line ticket. Buy two phones, hand to ringleader, get paid $20 to $50 for standing in line for a few hours.
I even posted a story about one "businessman" who bussed in homeless people to wait in line, Pasadena (dump), then he refused to pay them. Fights broke out, police called, etc.
Ton of Ebay auctions closing this evening, Sunday is usually busiest day on Ebay.
Gold iPhone 5s is still getting the most action by far, with many closing above $1600+ in the larger sizes (though at 16GB, some golds have started to sell for below $1000).
Next is silver iPhone 5s, selling for ~ $900+ in the 16GB size, and you're generally looking at $1000+ for 32 or 64 white iPhones.
Space grey is generally $150-$200 over unlocked contract price in all sizes, and seeing decent bid action.
If I were running a scalper team, at these prices, I'd definitely be hitting Apple stores this week as well, and would be buying every white and gold phone I could get my hands on and list them.
Once the online order iPhones start to get delivered, I expect this bubble to pop in a big way. So if you have an unopened gold or silver iPhone and are debating whether to sell it, my strong recommendation is to list it, and list it quick.
