Alright guys, its time for me to make a decision and I did. I placed an order for the apple magic mouse, 2.53 GHz+applecare, and also, I bought a $99 HP printer where I would get a $100 rebate=free printer. So without the magic mouse=total came out to $990.62. Then add $69.00+tax for magic mouse. WHEW! To make up for some of the cost, i'm selling my iphone 3G (i have 3GS), and working more to cover some flu shot clinic shifts to make the money to cover this cost. Good thing I make hourly pay in the $30s :D. No bragging intended.

I may get the 27" iMac for me and my family's use (hopefully the soul mate girlfriend will move in soon) probably around my birthday in February. ;). This mac mini was soley for me as it will be in my room. I'm not sure if others saw this picture of my setup. I finally came to the conclusion that the mac mini will fit me best for now as it will keep it under $1G. Now I don't have to make a trip to the applestore and carry all this.

I wonder how I'm going to get all this stuff after grad school and joining the air force..hmm we'll see.

To me at this point in life, $100 goes a long way :D What I don't think some people realize is the value and total cost of macs. Not to downtalk but I've experienced some "younger" individuals brag about their system and that their parents are buying all their stuff. I don't care. I've experienced this at the apple store. Also, some college students at my university who are likely in their early college years, complained about how macs without quad-core are useless and they wouldn't waste their energy on them and this was stated just yesterday at my university bookstore! They even talked stink about the mac mini. O well, we all have preferences. Soon next year I will have the iMac for my folks.

I'm so excited out of my pants for a new mac mini...which i wanted a desktop like the mac mini in the recent months in addition to my laptop. But they constantly ran out and I now know why.

still not sure what external hd to get .. have "my books" currently in use but might get the samsung STORY ;)

I have a confirmed shipping date for estimated arrival on October 26. Its weird that my free printer and apple care is coming from california and my mac mini is coming form canada just as my iphone 3GS?

10/27/09. i sold my late 07 mini (2.0 C2D) mini on craigslist
in 2 days for $500

wow my est DOA is october 26...what's the deal? It's Saturday the 24th and I see the fedex website showing that all my stuff is at the "dest sort facility" since last night around 1830! I ordered it on October 24th. Maybe fedex thought they have a long leeway and think they can take their time. well I better be patient. Do they do deliveries on Sundays? Do you guys want me to take a picture of the unboxing process? :)

i should be getting everything tomorrow. :D I will post pictures of the unboxing process. Should I make a mini video too? I have never done this before but I'll try be detailed and breif!

Congratulations on your purchase, please keep us informed on your thoughts on the mini.
I also am leaning in that direction, I thought the 20" would either go on clearance or at least be available in the refurb store, but that has not happened yet and as I only need a basic machine I can buy the mini, mouse, keyboard and a monitor plus the protection plan for less than a grand, of course the monitor will not be large or HD resolution but I can live with that.

Delivered Today!

I had to write in caps for my title cuz I was excited. I got my HP printer (free with rebate), and my 2.53 GHz Mac Mini w/applecare (auto-enroll) at the student discounted price. This computer is pretty worth it. I plugged in my external HD from my MBP and I restored my mac mini with my documents and programs from my MBP and it's "n'sync" bye bye bye...PC. :D I've never owned a desktop Mac before and it really does feel like a different experience of having a mac laptop and desktop. It looks downright sexy too just sitting next to my 24" ACD. It's such a sleek and simplistic design, my folks were like "WTF is that really a computer?", "So cute!", "It looks so simple but I heard it's powerful now". My friends who are still PC users wanted to look for a mac desktop on a budget and they're getting the same thing I am since they have their own monitors, speakers, and peripherals. Soon they'll buy a MB or MBP from what they told me. ANYWAY.

I'm using it right now as we speak. I tried loading some videos from my 3GS but I'm no techy and I didn't know the video wouldn't come out the way it's view on my iphone if i turned it sideways, sorry guys. The Mac Mini does not take up much space at all. My monitor isn't all that large like the 27" and its good enough for my eyes, I can still multi-talk by reading PDF files and writing pages or word.

Speed performance? It's pretty fast IMHO. Slightly noticeable when compared to my other friend's mac mini (2.0ghz with 2GB RAM). Biggest difference I see is in launching of media such as movies and large photos. Loading of webpages seems a little quicker. Just everything is quicker but not drastically quick which is better than nothing. The front reminds me of The Day The Earth Stood Still w/Keannu Reaves (?spelling?) robot dude. I'd say the black printer fits in nicely here in this setup. Not only are all of this sexy here, it's functionally great in performance. I'm happy with my new mac mini and I'm going to make sure I make use of it well for a LONG time. Any other upgrading in the future will be software only as I don't need anymore than 4GB RAM. I may get a new computer lets say every 3-5 years?

I played around with the new imacs in the apple store and the 27" is too big. 21.5"...eh... I had the stuff, so all I needed was something like the mac mini. If you're not a professional photographer, extreme graphics artist, professional commercial movie maker, this mac mini is for you if you're on a budget. To me, it seems like you can do some of the big boys stuff on the mini. Any questions or concerns? Feel free to ask.

Sorry about bad video. I'm still learning.

congrats man and i am so envious last time i used a mac was back in 91-92 and it was not even powerpc then it was the macintosh was its name oh

Looks good. If you think it's fast now, wait till you junk the crappy internal HDD and put a SSD in. It makes such a huge difference. Things open instantly - Photoshop CS4 Extended opens in 6 seconds instead of over 40 on a 7200rpm WD internal drive (who knows how long it would take with the 5400rpm Hitachi shipped with the machine?).

Whoa 6 seconds compared to 40?!

I must say...I may HAVE to consider the intel SSD's in the future maybe during Christmas or little thereafter. How much would an Intel SSD cost for something over 320GB? Any reasonable places online? Easy to install and no problems thereafter?
