I'm going to buy the Mac Mini 2.53 GHz; UPDATE: DELIVERED!

I couldn't estimate prices for the Intel where you are (I'm in the UK so we pay double on most things). I bought the Crucial one because it was reasonably priced with decent performance. I'm a long time Crucial customer and have had brilliant service from them in the past, too.

Install of the SSD was simple, I just fitted the drive, did a restore install using my Time Machine backup to Leopard, then immediately upgraded to Snow Leopard. Took less than an hour from shutting the machine down to being up and working with new drive and new OS. All my programs worked fine, too.

What I don't think some people realize is the value and total cost of macs. Not to downtalk but I've experienced some "younger" individuals brag about their system and that their parents are buying all their stuff. I don't care. I've experienced this at the apple store.

I visited an Apple Store and saw this in action... a parent was willing to buy a kid the lower end model, but the kid refused. He only wanted "the best" and "the biggest". He got neither, and left empty-handed. I was glad the parent held firm.

lol, negotiation fail.

I'm also thinking of getting the mac mini to go along with my 1.5 year old white macbook. I plan on using it for things like basic Photoshop and Illustrator work as well as working in Lightroom (of course the basics as well such as Office, iLife, Safari, etc.). These are all things I do on my current macbook already but I've noticed my macbook isnt as zippy as it used to be. How do you all think the mac mini will hold up?

I also just plan on getting the 2.26Ghz version and upgrading the Ram to 4GB. This saves me about $100 and I don't really need the extra hard drive space as I have externals.

Will the mac mini get me by? My other option is that my school has on clearance the 20" 2.66Ghz iMacs for $949. But I wasn't intending on spending that much especially since I arleady have a 26" monitor, external keyboard and mouse and a tablet. I don't really see much of a benefit between the base new mac mini and the 20" clearance iMac other than the .4Ghz in speed and bigger hard drive. They both even use the same exact video card.

Just one of the things wrong with America right there. I would have popped him in the mouth and make him do yard work.

To late '09 Mac mini owners: can you confirm the mini support full 3 Gbit SATA connections, or just 1.5?

Any beachball to date?

(MBP 13" has been -and still is- a pretty bad experience... I'm asking you because of the same nVidia chipset)

Thank you :D

Sorry I'm not familiar of what that is. Anyone know? Why has the 13" MBP been a bad experience?

Nice. Thanks for the pics. VERY happy with mine, too. It's a very capable machine. Seems like people either love the mini or hate it. I have a similar setup, and really like how quickly & easily I can switch my ACD to either the mini or my MacBook Pro.

Like it

I also got a 2.53 mac mini -- it works very well and is quite fast. Yesterday I backed up the contents of my 500gb disk (I swapped the 320 out) to a firewire disk. The Mac Mini's fan came on and the air coming out was quite warm, but it was virtually silent. A very nice computer, even if it's not as sexy as the 27 inch monster. Note that apparently it can be upgraded to 8 gigs RAM, though that would cost almost as much as the mini itself.

Yes it's me son. Also the beachball thing is the little color wheel that is ridin' spinnas when stuff is taking awhile to load. I see it constantly on my Mac..but my Mac is like a grandfather.
