For those in the UK, I’ve realised that when you get a text from 81088 asking you to reply 1 to confirm a Genius Bar appointment, you get charged for it. This is a premium rate number which Apple charges for. Has anyone else experienced this?

Not being from the UK I'm unfamiliar with the idea of texts that cost additional money, but if true that's absolute BS.

Did you make the appointment? (Maybe in the UK things are different?) Can you just keep your appointment and not verify or use texting?

In the US, you have the option to reply “1” to cancel the appointment, but even that is optional. You could go on the website (probably through a link in your email) to cancel it. Or just not show up, and that’s fine too.

Yes I made the appointment online. It’s free to make changes online but if you reply anything to the Apple number to make changes on there, it’s charged.

If true, then sounds like Apple wants you to show up, and charging for confirming may be one of the methods to "help" you remember to keep your appointment (and ultimately cut down on no-shows...)
