I had a 2016 MBP with Touchbar and it came with an 87w power adapter. Recently bought a 2018 MBP and it came with a 61w adapter. Anyone know why Apple reduced the wattage of the adapter the MBP ships with by 26w?

Pretty sure the 15" ones come with a 87w power adapter and the 13" ones with a 61w one. I presume your 2016 MBP was a 15" one and the 2018 a 13" one?

No. I had a 13" TB. But, I did buy an extra power adapter and I think that's the one that is 87w. Seems like I got the wrong one. Do you know if it's safe to use the 87w with the 13"?

Yup! Perfectly safe. The MacBook would negotiate with the adapter and take up the maximum it can take, which would be 61w anyway.
