That one should be fine.

Biggest concern is the 64K/128K EEPROM issue.

Back up the ROM, but be sure to do a "Nvflash -c" first....it will tell you which EEPROM you have.

If it is a 64K chip...don't even try to flash. (Same thing as trying to pour 2 liters of soda in a 1 liter bottle...ain't gonna happen)

Is there a way of examining the card to know if its a 128k EEPROM? There are 9800's for sale at a local retailer, and I'd rather go that route then eBay. Of course I suppose I could purchase it, check the EEPROM and return it if its 64k. . .

Edit: Screw it, I'm gonna pick up a 9800 tonight, if it doesn't work I can just flash back and return it.

Edit 2: Hold on if it doesn't work and I brick the card there's no way for me to flash back to my original ROM is there? At least not without a 2nd video card installed to allow me to see what I'm doing on the re-flash right?

Before you flash, post here what it says when you do the Nvflash -C command.

Also, zip and attach the ROM on it.

SOME 9800s will have weird fan behavior running the 8800 ROM, others work fine.

Why we need to figure out the "stitching".....

First off, thank you very much for your continued support, you are a god send. (Perhaps I should send a case of Stella your way).

This is the output I get when I run nvflash -c

(C2, 2001):MX MX25L1005 2.7-3.6V 1024kx1s, page

Looks like I have a 128k then, I'm gonna giver a shot and see what happens. . . *crosses fingers*

I come to report GREAT SUCCESS!

Ok well semi-great success. . . its running, but with the caveat of the fan running pernamently at 100%.

2006 Mac Pro 1,1
eVGA 9800GT PN: 512-P3-N973-TR
EEPROM: (C2, 2001):MX MX25L1005 2.7-3.6V 1024kx1s, page
Bios: Attached

Just some info for anyone else who comes browsing through the forums looking for help.

Rominator thanks for all your help, I suppose the last thing I have to ask is if you ever figure out a way to drop the fan speed let me know? I'm going to try to search out some 3rd party software, and barring that I suppose I could attach a cheap fan controller. . .

This is exactly what I meant by "weird fan behavior"

You might also notice that it will STOP sometimes.

The 9800 uses a slight revision on G92 for lower power consumption..WE NEED SOMEONE WHO CAN STITCH THESE G92 ROMS.

If you want, I can create a ROM which will id as 9800GT in OSX and Windows and run at higher clocks. HOWEVER, it will still have fan speed issue.

Glad it works otherwise.
