In regards to Scalable Link Interface, it worked beautifully on the Voodoo 5 series or the good old Voodoo 2.

Voodoo 2 used Scan line Interleave which is a lot different from how nVidia does it (hence the name change). Unfortunately i can't remember the method used by the voodoo 5.

This was tested and tried technology even before NVIDIA decided to use it.

Not the way that nVidia implemented it. Plus companies don't share information on how they do things so just because one company got it right doesn't mean another will (and yes i know nVidia bought 3DFX).

Also have you tried running SLI with the GeForce on those older games where 3DFX worked so well? It works beautifully.

ATI had already used Alternate Frame Rendering with the Rage 128 Fury Maxx back in 2000, only worked in Windows 95 and 98 though (due to driver issues with Windows XP).

They did use it and Crossfire still uses this method for some games (unless they removed it).

No, I have been spared in that regard. Scalable Link Interface nor CrossfireX has any interest for me at this time.

But yeah, I got no clue what I was thinking before
Technologically Scan-Line Interleave and Scalable Link Interface uses a very different approach

In regards to CrossfireX it still uses Alternate Frame Rendering.

Anyone already have dual 3870 or earlier Xfire cards in their Mac Pro ?

Curious as to what the second card does while booted in OS X - just sit there silent ?

And with dual monitors in both OS X and Vista with two 3870's should both be plugged into one card or split between the two or does it even matter ?

I'm pretty curious too. I've got the stock 2600, and have a third monitor I want to use. Have the 3870 on order, any advice on card setup? Is it better to plug in two monitors into the 3870 or the 2600? And will the 2600 just sit there and be quiet like a good graphics card should? One of the Apple Store employees said I'd get a faster refresh rate by plugging 2 monitors into the 2600 and allowing the 3870 to do more number crunching.

I have dual Mac edition 3870s running in crossfire under boot camp without a problem. I also have dual 22" widescreen LCDs plugged in, but both are plugged into a single card.
