You and me both... perhaps tuesday or wednesday since for whatever reason Apple is holding the MB Airs till Wednesday... perhaps this is the delay in the 10.5.2 which may contain the drivers (or not).

10.5.2 expected to come out Friday!?!... And nVidia has publicly stated they would make a driver for the entire MacPro line. If Apple were to include such a driver upgrade...

nVidia is working with Apple to produce a second card, not a firmware update. There's no room in the GeForce 8800 GT ROM for making it compatible with both models of Mac Pro.

Because of that, I doubt there is a connection between the release of 10.5.2 and the ship date of the Mac Pros with GeForce 8800 GT (and the 8800 GT kits).

Don't get me wrong. I won't be upset if the GeForce 8800 GT kit I ordered ships sooner than the February 29th estimate on my invoice.

I agree... I read about the ROM limitations only after I orignally made this thread. I just know, according to engaget, that nVidia is working on something to extend the compatibility of the 8800gt to more than just the current line of MacPro's. This could be wrong, but still... it shows Apple is working with nVidia on some form of update and a good place to tuck it in is with the 10.5.2... Apple could always tuck it in somewhere else if need be, but since both the 8800gt and 10.5.2 and the MBA is around the corner, one could only assume.

Yea, I'm waiting to order my Mac Pro until the 10.5.2 and 8800 GT are ready for shipping. Then get them in one swoop !!

Same here. No word yet today though. I'm hoping tomorrow, because honestly, the wait is killing me. I need this machine NOW.

Well, since Apple pushed back the MacBook Air till Wednesday, I'm not sure if Wednesday may be the day (or Thursday). One thing is for sure... I'm ordering the same day.

Credit Cards awaiting the word...

Why wait..?

Well... I'm still moving funds over. Once all the funds make it to the pot, I'll order it without using any credit, but that'll be a few more weeks. If it becomes available this week, then I'll use a credit card to loan me the funds (that's how I'll justify it), but I'll just playing it safe till then. I like buying things straight up, but I'm not going to wait if it becomes available. :D

hehe After pushing this thread in everyones face for this long he better come through.. that, or go hide for a while! :)

Only time will tell. I'm guessing anytime this week. I'm ready to get my Mac though...

I've been ready for what seems like months (actually about 2 weeks). Waiting for something like this has a way of stretching time. I find myself checking the internet for shipping info more than is healthy.

Welp, my order's ship date sure hasn't changed. :(

You mean that a theory that was 100% speculation turned out not to be true? Seriously though, I have no reason to believe that Apple is going to ship my MP one minute before the ship date I have.

Yeah, I know. But I was hoping.

Haha... I had a good feeling after all the confidence and posts, nothing was going to happen today.

Here's the bottom line, folks...

When the new Mac Pro's were released, the ship date was 3-5 weeks. If you ordered on that day (Jan 8th), the system will give you the five week date (not the three). Since then, the ship date has progressively moved downward. Today is 2-3 weeks. If you order today, the system will simply give you the three week date.

I have no reason to believe that Apple is going to ship my MP one minute before the ship date I have.

When Apple is ready to ship these, I'm certain they will ship everyone waiting for one within days apart, not in a span of six weeks (as everyone's "ship date" suggests). I mean, seriously. I even have my brother-in-law who works for NVidia who says the issue is not inventory related but SW related. That's all I know... i have no idea what that means. It could mean its waiting on 10.5.2, it could mean something else. Today just marks the exact day of week three from the original 3-5 week lead out. My original thread stated it will be sometime this week. If not this week, then sure, I will bow out... but i'm fairly confident it will most likely be this week.

Is there a reason that so many people think that the holdup on the 8800 is 10.5.2? I mean, is there anything behind that or is it just speculation?

Speculation. On the starting post of this thread there is a link from engaget showing they are working on compatibility. Whether that means SW or even a HW issue, we're not sure... but if it is a SW issue, they can squeeze it into the 10.5.2 or another update later.

But then again... we're still waiting for 10.5.2...

Stick a fork in this one it's done.

Speculation on 10.5.2 was for a release today, unrelated to 8800 delays.
