Apple today issued a press release formally confirming that the iPad will launch this Saturday in the U.S. Wi-Fi iPad models will be available in all 221 U.S. Apple retail stores and at "most" Best Buy locations beginning at 9:00 AM.
"iPad connects users with their apps and content in a far more intimate and fun way than ever before," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "We can't wait for users to get their hands and fingers on it this weekend."
Apple also announced that all customers making iPad purchases in its retail stores will receive free Personal Setup service, which includes assistance from Apple staff with setting up email accounts on the device, loading applications, and other tasks. Apple retail stores are also set to begin hosting iPad workshops this Saturday, offering customers ways to get more out of their devices.

Customers who pre-ordered Wi-Fi models have noted that their devices have begun shipping, although the orders are not expected to arrive until Saturday.

Soooo, you don't have to sync it with "your" iTunes to start with? Loading Apps - as in buying them on the device?

Ye gads, this sounds chaotic - glad we aren't going to the store on Saturday!!!

(But happy that they are going to be doing all of this)

My BestBuy won't have them.... they only sell Mac's at Christmas time apparently!

:) All the hype about the launch makes me want to go and buy one Saturday.

Must. Hold. Out...

I keep telling myself the iPhone will be worth another 2 year contract, or that the iPod Touch will save me with a camera. I can't justify their prices any more though. I want them all, but I don't need them.

Well, perhaps I need just one. :D

This is bad news for those that didn't want to wait in a 4 hour line. If they are setting the ipad up then expect lines to crawl. This sucks!

I was in our BestBuy yesterday asking for a Firewire 800 to 400 cable. I was told that they don't carry any Firewire 800 cables because they don't have an Apple Kiosk. Since when was Firewire an Apple only standard?

how "high pressure" are the sales people at the Apple stores? I just want to grab and go...

They aren't in my experience (Short Hills, Rockaway, Middletown, Lehigh Valley, King of Prussia).... I don't believe they make a commission so while they will suggest things, they won't pressure you.

Yes it does lol. I was expecting an hour or so. I don't want help with my iPad, they should split the lines into who wants help from who doesn't

Oh lord.... LOL!

Mine is a small small small market store (the smallest they build), the Apple "end cap" varies on what htey have. 1 tiny 2 shelf bookshelf with odds & ends. At Christmas it had an iMac & MBP - i was shocked!

I need a cable for my MBP and I know to not even try the store... which means a 60 mile drive. UGH.

1. That iPad App Store screenshot still floors me at how beautifully designed it is.

2. I agree - those lines are gonna crawl if they don't separate them. Sometimes, I forget that there are millions of people out there that need help in setting up things like email, iTunes account, etc.

My order says "Prepared for Shipment"

You can load your iTunes account on the device directly just like you can on an iPhone or iPod Touch. It's not an iPhone so there is no unbricking process to use the device without connecting to iTunes.

so how much you think one of these is going to go for on ebay saturday night? $850-$900?

You should have really confused them and asked them if they carry the White Album by the Beatles.

Setup of your iPad w/ in store purchase. Nice that Apple offers that for those who can't chew gum and walk at the same time for FREE. I bet Best Buy charges those who buy an iPad $199 for same setup.

If you know what you want, just give them the list and tell then that is all you need. They may suggest other items but just tell them no thanks.

They are very low preasure, I been to at least 5 Apple stores and never had a problem.

I sort of doubt that is the way it would go in the store. If Apple is smart, and they usually are smart when it comes to retail decisions, they will have one line for the purchases, and that's a simple swipe of the credit card and you're done. Then those who want hand-holding and app installation will go to a different line to have help. THAT is the line that will be long and slow, but the purchasing line should be iPod fast!

That would be nice if it happened, but I've been in line at the Apple store waiting to buy a DisplayPort adapter during the back to school madness and the employees didn't have the good sense to separate the lines into those looking for the laptop/printer/iPod bundles and those who didn't.

I hear ya, but I think on special occasions such as the April 3rd launch, they will think out ahead of time what is likely to happen and prepare accordingly.
