If you can deal with the 17" form factor, the base 17" seems like the decent deal of the lot... assuming one can call any of them a decent deal.

13inch 2.4 with 128GB SSD

I was thinking to buy a 15inch but later i decided to get a 13inch just because i do not want bulky machines..

C2D is still good enough to use, with new 2010 13inch we are getting a much better GPU, firewire.

With ssd upgrade, it will be smooth..

mee too 13inch 2.4 i quote you : ;)

Yup, I got a MBP 13" base model as well.

Totally happy with it. I was the first one to buy one of the new batch in Leicester but had to take it back cos of one damn pixel smack bang in the middle of my screen.

But got my replacement today and it's flawless =D

15" i5. Bought it at the apple store. First reported defective i5, according to Apple CR. Do I get a medal for that?

Just bought 13.3" 2.4 GHz.
I will buy the 15.4" if Apple only give me back the Express Card Slot.:(

15" i7, I've been posting this around a few threads so forgive me if some of you are sick of me harping on about how happy I am :)

Glad to see that there's lots of people supporting this decision! As many as the low end 13" at the time of posting, in fact!

Of the new 15" models, you have chosen the best "deal" IMO. Congrats on what should be a terrific laptop! :). I'd do the same but my 15" is only 7 months old and adequate for my current needs. My wants are another story................. ;). Will likely upgrade in 12 months when Apple offers USB3 or Light Peak.

FWIW, I purchased the 2010 base 13" model due to the claimed 10 hour bat life. Will use that computer for travel and the 15" for home use. I'm amazed at the bitching-moaning over the retention of the C2D processor in this model.

cheers

I ordered the 17" i7. I would have ordered it on Tuesday but waited a couple days until I was told by a couple Apple Store employees that the 17" i7 glossy would not be carried in the store and had to be ordered. The 17" i7 anti-glare was available in the stores and I could have bought that the Tuesday they were released. Oh well, thanks to psychos I got to learn about FlightAware and how to track flights and predict when and how my MBP will be coming to me. :)

I'm surprised the 15" MBP's are so far ahead of the 13'sin the Poll ... that's unusual ... the 13" was said to be Apple's best selling notebook.

Could it be the 13" not getting a new processor has that much of an effect on sales?

Maybe Apple wants the 15" MBP's to catch up or balance out with the 13" MBP's hence the 13" not getting the updated processor... who know's.

I went with the base 17". I couldn't justify the extra money for a little faster processor speed.

well fellow MR members tend to be more tech savvy so the poll could just be biased and can't be applied to the general population of people that buy MacBooks.

I am surprised that the number of 17s are so low. I think it would be higher if there was an i7 option stock.

To sell all products they produce, of course they have to differentiate them. I do not think 15inchs will oversell 13inch in the long run. 13inch is more likely for casual users than 15inch buyers. And most of the causal users do not follow forums like this, because they are not interested in 20% perfomance difference as c2d is still good enough for daily tasks. People here are generally gamers, photographers or people who are using their macs to make their life with software like adobe photoshop, final cut...

Therefore, it is normal to see in this forum that 13inch is behind 15inch.

In my point of view, there should be 2 options. 13inch or 17inch.

For causals and portability needs 13inch is ok
For professionals 17inch ok because they need bigger screens.

Why do pros need bigger screens? Bit of a generalisation. I know professional mac users who even use 12 inch PowerBooks still occasionally.

Not all pros are photographers etc.
