Anyone think we'll see iMacs with the ability to have and use 8GB of RAM in 2009? Currently the system is limited to 4gb of RAM.

What do you mean? 4gb is the max. It's been like that since the original 4th gen imac.

    iMac Core Solo:Core Duo/Calistoga = 2 gb
    iMac Core 2 Duo/Calistoga = 3.2 gb
iMac Core 2 Duo/Santa Rosa = 4 gb for sure, 8 gb likely (since SR takes 8 gb)

But Apple often doesn't tell you the whole truth, only what they want you to hear.

Why would you want 8G of memory in an iMac? If you need that meomory to run applications you'd probably be well served to set up to a Mac Pro. Plus I feel the thread title is a little misleading. More like 'What are the prospects for 8G of memory in an iMac'. As it stands, it sound like you're making a speculative statement based on something you heard.

    That's a very good point.

But some people just like the thought of pimping their computers.

I'd like to have 8GB of RAM in an iMac to process 24mp resolution images in addition to editing 1080p videos. Having it in an iMac keeps the clutter down ;)

Do you have 64-bit apps for doing those tasks?
