Whilst paying for my 16GB Touch, I asked the availability of the 8GB at the till/checkout, to the manager of PCW. She told me "..I've read in some docs I've received that the 8GBs will no longer be delivered [to anyone] and only the 16&31GB will be available."

Ouch, and would this also mean a price drop? I hope not.

Every single Apple product becomes obsolete, regardless of who buys it. Doesn't mean they aren't useable.

"Obsolete" not. Maybe no longer made, upgraded, previous generation...
If it gets the job done the same as the others then its not obsolete, it just works as it is/was intended.
