Whilst paying for my 16GB Touch, I asked the availability of the 8GB at the till/checkout, to the manager of PCW. She told me "..I've read in some docs I've received that the 8GBs will no longer be delivered [to anyone] and only the 16&31GB will be available."

Ouch, and would this also mean a price drop? I hope not. :(

And unfortunately this is why it means virtually nothing even though its the manager. PC World don't know anything.

You know, "I hope not" makes you seem a bit childish and selfish, no offense intended....

It would help out a lot of people, and wouldn't cost you anything.

    So why hope against it?

Every single Apple product becomes obsolete, regardless of who buys it. Doesn't mean they aren't useable.

Stop worrying about not having the latest & greatest and enjoy your gadgets - and your life!

    You mean 16 & 32GB. There is no 31GB.

"Obsolete" not. Maybe no longer made, upgraded, previous generation...
If it gets the job done the same as the others then its not obsolete, it just works as it is/was intended.
