Why on all of the pictures of the iPhone and iPod Touch, when the time is showing, it always shows 9:42 AM?
 
I think that it's probably just a good, random number that they all agreed to when they started to do ads, to ensure continuity(or something like that).
 
Truth be told, it could be an important time for one of Apple's most important people. For example, suppose one of Jobs' children was born at 9:42? Sometimes these things have no meaning to us, but they do to the person who insisted on it.

That's possible too. I always think that it would be so unbelievably cool to have something that is so personally important to you to be in the public eye, and have it have absolutely no significance to anybody else besides yourself.
 
Presuming that you're referring to the fact that iPhone promotional materials show the time as 9:42 AM, the conjecture is that it's because the iPhone was introduced at 9:42 AM during MWSF 2007.

Of course, even Apple claims not to know.
 
It's about the Apple religion.

The iPhone was announced at (or around) 9:42AM on January 9th 2007. It was first shown 13 minutes later at 9:55AM. Watch the keynote... iCal was the same deal right?
 
All of these facts are really interesting. Especially the iCal one.

Instead of these random numbers, there is actually thought going on. I really like that.
 
I'd rather the ads show the time as 10:10 like they do in every watch & clock advertisement. Sure, telling time is not it's primary function, but why pick a random number over an established one?
 
^ hmm ive noticed if you search for "rolex" in Google Images most of the watches (not all) show 11 past 10, not 10 past? is this a special time?

also something ive noticed (not to do with time) but in the iPhone 3G Software Gallery every application has the 3G logo in the menu bar except the iTunes Store? does this mean that you can only download from the iTunes Store while connected to WIFI?
