The Pro 9.7 will get at least 2 less iOS versions. At the least.

What people don't understand is that 4GB is the magic number in a computer.

The transition to 8GB from 4GB will take at least as long if not longer than the transition from 1GB to 4GB.

If going from 1GB to 4GB took 4 yrs for example. Then going from 4GB to 8GB is likely to take 3-5+ yrs as well.

So once you hit 4GB you've a long time before your device isn't good enough any longer.

I disagree. The standard iPAD that came out this year has 2GB. It will last as long as the 9.7 pro and this years 10.5 pro Eventually we will get to a point where it will last until it quits working as iOS will be fully matured like windows is. I still run a desktop from 2010 that runs windows just as well as my computer at work that is a year old and higher specs. What do you suspect they can add to iOS which will tax the current lineup of iPADs? Everything in the APP store runs just fine on any of the iPADs that apple sells. (64 bit is the key)

The resell value of the 9.7 alone makes me want to sell it asap. At the same time if I only get $2-300 for my pro I don't have a need enough to spend an extra $500 + on a secondary "computer".

How is everyone using their ipads anyhow?

I use mine to teach/sermons. The 10.5 will become my travel device if a laptop ban goes into effect and I cant take my MBA

The "obsolescence" for iPad may not come from brute power, but from specific tasks using specified chips. See the AI thing and the rumored chips that comes with it ...

Good thing is, you can always sell whatever iPad you choose and upgrade again next year if you want.

And the nice thing about iPads, is the resell value isn't necessarily the best (Pending Storage), but they do sell rather quickly, especially if they are in good condition or better.

Hey Guys,

I am in a dilemma, ever since I was introduced to the iPad its size 9.7" has appealed so much to me that it has stuck on to me. I am kind of hung on to it. 9.7" is the perfect size not too small, not too large, and large enough to have a full, big screen experience. But with the 10.5" Apple has broken that sweet spot. I am a little too worried that the 10.5" size would be a bit bulky and difficult to handle in terms of compactness and portability. The 10.5" is also slightly heavier in weight when compared to the 9.7" iPad Pro. What do you guys think should I take the plunge for 10.5"? Or should I buy the 9.7" iPad Pro ?

I've used a 12.9 as my main device for over a year so 10.5 feels great... however, I never liked the 9.7 but now the 10.5 does feel like a genuine sweet spot. Give it a go in store if you can. Brilliant device. Just need a cover .. but love its thinness and weight naked..

I couldn't buy 'old' tech if I'm upgrading and I can get the latest... just me.

Just saw a video confirming the 10.5 does in fact still work with the 9.7 if that means anything to anyone.

Would look silly to have a Smart Cover smaller than the iPad its attached to but if it's not an issue an you already have an ASK could save you some $

UPDATE:
This video shows that the 9.7 ASK stays attached and even puts the 10.5 to sleep. This is great news since the 10.5 version doesn't even add any new functionality but costs an extra $160.

Wow why can't Logitech make this for the 9.7? Basically turns your iPad into a surface.

I've always been able to get about $200 less than what I paid for my iPad, close to $500. I keep my products in good condition so that they are easier to sell. I end up spending around $200-$300 per year to use the device.

If I wanna sell my iPad-3 how much could I get for it ? Bare minimum ? It is in Pristine condition with no damage what so ever.

I cannot get my 9.7 pro Smart Cover to sleep/wake my new 10.5 iPad so I'm pretty sure the magnets no longer line up.

Strange. In the comments on that video the presenter says it does. I was surprised when he said that due to the magnets not lining up at the edge.

iPad Pro 10.5 inch isn't that much bigger compared to iPad Pro 9.7 because it has smaller bezels.. I mean it is only .45 inch taller and .21 inch wider. So for me iPad Pro 10.5 inch will be supported for 1 year longer than A9/A9X devices.
Just like This:
iOS 11: A7 Devices and up
iOS 12: A8/A8X or higher
iOS 13: A9/A9X or higher
iOS 14: A10/A10X
iOS 15: A11 chip (iPhone 8)

So for iPad Pro 10.5 inch it is actually 2 Times more powerful than iPad Air 2 in geekbench score. iPad AIr 2 multi core is around 4500 while the 10.5 pro is 9300 and that is more than doubled!!

True sister, iPad Pro 10.5 that comes with iOS 10 will still support until iOS 14 unlike the A9 devices.
And It's touch id is second generation just like the iPhone 7. Plus 4GB RAM and 120Refresh rate.

I love that this thread is still happening and the OP still hasn't made a decision.

It is with experience and reading here that I have realised and come to this opinion that it is always wise to buy a product when the production line and assembly line has settled down which is like in period of 2-3 months so the result is a better product (Display issues yellow screens, backlight bleeding and all the other stuff ) has settled down ! I am in not a hurry though I do wanna buy it soon.

But in 2-3 months, you'll be 2-3 months closer to the release of the 2018 iPad and this year's iPad's obsolescence. Oughta just wait til next year at that point!

The 2018 iPads are not going to happen anytime soon before the second half of 2018 so I should be good that way !
