My school's sys admin just upgraded all of our PowerMac G4's in our computer lab. There were a total of about 30. We are susposed to retrieve data files from the "server" and copy them to our local machines. However, 10.3 keeps limiting "Personal File Sharing" to 9 simultanious users. This creates a problem in a class of 30. Is this a limitation of the "regular" version of Panther? Or is it something else?

I'm assuming the admin wanted to go the cheap route and just purchased 10.3 and not 10.3 Server?

Given that even the base version of OSX Server only supports 10 concurrent users (you have to pay twice as much for the unlimited version), I'm not at all surprised that sharing is limited to 9 in the non-server version. After all, under what normal circumstance would more than 9 computers be simultaneously connected on a home network?

There are probably workarounds involving fiddling with Unix settings or using non-GUI tools, though.
