911 HELP = Dvd slot drive swallowed my SDHC Card

Instead of placing my sdhc card into the memory card slot on the imac I placed it by mistake in the dvd drive and it just swallowed it up and I have no idea how to get to it.

I have some very important information on there, anyone please help!!!

Yea... I don't think you're getting that back unless you go in and get it disassembled and you'd have to pay something hefty for that.

Wow that really sucks. I wouldn't try sticking anything in the drive slot in hopes of getting it out. The only way to get it out is to open it up and take the drive out. I also wouldn't recommend doing this yourself unless you have experience doing it.

Bring it to the apple store and see what they say. Thats your best option.

If you would have use MRoogle to search for this type of thing, you'd see that it happens often to some people. Just try searching with MRoogle next time.

Some have had success tipping it to the side and using a credit card to work out the sd card.

Turn it on it's side and use a pair of tweezers to gently ease it out, it does work (done it in store a few times like this).

This worked 😀

Now I seriously believe that having the memory card slot right next to the dvd drive is a bad design + considering how close they are to each other.


I place my imac on it's side and used my credit card to safely slide the card out.

Good to hear that it worked. Yeah, it's a design oversight, IMO.
