Apple Japan has already posted a promotional page for the 2010 Back to School promotion. Each year, Apple holds a promotion offering a free iPod to educational customers who purchase a qualifying Mac. Last year's promotion offered rebates for up to $229 against the cost of the iPod. This year's promotion seems to mirror this same offer. Notably, neither the iPhone nor the iPad are included in the promotion.

Last year, Apple launched international and U.S. Back to School promotions simultaneously, so we expect the U.S. launch will also fall on this date.

I thought I remember seeing this awhile back, idk. Good news for Japan, maybe the US and UK will get an update soon.

This sucks... 2 weeks after buying a MBP, I could really use an iPod. I knew the promo was coming, but couldn't wait any longer for a new computer. $2500 later and two weeks later, I wish I could get that iPod.

I bought my 13" MBP on May 12. Return date is May 26. Can I just take in the receipt and get the Back to School promo? Or would I have to return the computer (take the restocking fee), and then rebuy with an iPod touch?

If so, probably not worth it. I don't even want an iTouch I already have an iPhone. But it'd be a nice free thing (after rebate) to resell.

Oh and I don't believe the prices will be mirrored this year, looks like it's $200 for a 8GB touch right now, but $250 for a Classic. If anyone is looking to make a profit after they get theirs, it seems the Classic may be a better choice (If the rebate is in full).

The iPod needs to be on the same receipt as the Mac (It's mail in).

No, the Japanese says it is UNTIL May 25th.

EDIT: I'm not even sure what happened in the past, but I just checked the site, and again, it is UNTIL May 25th. The Japanese school year starts in April.

The End of the Promotion

Japan's school year starts April 1st and this promotion has been on for a couple of months now. The ad states the end of their back to school campaign is May 25th, not the beginning.

Wrong information

I'm sorry to say, but that information is wrong.
I live in Japan, and Apple has been doing the Back to School campaign for a while now, and it will actually end, not start on the 25th of May. (like it's written on the picture you posted)

Hope you see this and correct it accordingly.

That's why I thought I saw it before! We need a translator over @ Macrumors...

Hahaha, I'm loving how the picture says it ends on May 25.

This made me smile today.

On another note, I'm looking forward to our back to school sale. I've been hanging on to my classic iPod, the first video for a while now and the battery is unable to hold a charge, while my harddrive is making this god awful clicking noise. I think it's just time for a new nano or something, I really don't hold as much media as I used to when I was younger.

You are crazy if you think Apple would include a ipad or iphone with a purchase of a mac computer.

Damn, this article is full of fail :)

Oops. MacRumors FAIL. :D

Can they rewrite up a new receipt with iPod touch? I guess not...

Oh well. Can't have it all :p

Is this true? It does seem like it would be more effort on Apple's part to take the return and restock - is there a restocking fee within the 2 week grace period?
