Basically with the grandfathering of the unlimited plans does this mean that those of us who keep them will actually have UNLIMITED data? I mean, what would be the point of still paying the 30 a month if we were still subject to the 5GB limitations right?

I don't think there is even a 5gb "softcap" limit right now. Even if there is, wouldn't you rather pay $30 for 5gb instead of $25 for 2gb?

Correct, there is no softcap now. I have gone over 5GB a couple of times and other people I know have used even more without any type of fee.

In other news, there still is no soft cap for the iPhone.

In other news, you're wrong:

If you are on a data plan that does not include a monthly MB/GB allowance and additional data usage rates, you agree that AT&T has the right to impose additional charges if you use more than 5 GB in a month; provided that, prior to the imposition of any additional charges, AT&T shall provide you with notice and you shall have the right to terminate your Service.

And in the world of people that fully read and comprehend what they are reading....you're wrong.

That's a Data Connect plan, not a Smartphone data plan.

Wrong.

http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/legal/plan-terms.jsp

The iPhone specific text does not overrule the data terms (bottom of section 1, iPhone specific). See bolded part on section 2.
2) WIRELESS DATA SERVICE TERMS AND CONDITIONS (applies to all customers)

Apparently you are part of the world of people who cannot comprehend what they read. *Shrug*.

"Smartphone/BlackBerry Plans with Tethering"

OWNED

Edit: Here, let me end your embarassment once and for all with an easy to read matrix.

http://www.wireless.att.com/businesscenter/popup/dataconnect-comp-table.jsp

*Facepalm*

Your link is absolutely irrelevant. Go to your AT&T account and view your contract for the line with an iPhone. It takes you to that page. The header you refer to is for the next section. Maybe your kindergarten teacher will teach you how paragraph and sections work tomorrow? We can only hope.

Those terms apply to ALL AT&T customers.

You have just thoroughly been
OWNED.

Ahh I can't wait to check the responses to this BS in the morning.

Says the guy who cannot refute any points but follows a person from thread to thread. On the ignore list you go.

Wow, you are really hard headed. ALL AT&T CUSTOMERS WITH THE PLANS DESCRIBED.

You keep showing plans that include tethering. The matrix clearly lays it all out. Smartphone plans WITHOUT tethering have no cap. Simple. Done. Over. GIVE IT UP. You couldn't own me in your dreams bud.

Hahaha...and if he did ignore me, I guess he can continue in his ignorance.

Edit: In case you didn't ignore me, here's your kindergarten lesson....

Paragraph 1:

Smartphone/BlackBerry Plans: Smartphone/BlackBerry plans may ONLY be used with AT&T-certified RIM BlackBerry devices, and smartphones for the following purposes: (i) Internet browsing; (ii) email; and (iii) intranet access (including access to corporate intranets, email, and individual productivity applications like customer relationship management, sales force, and field service automation). Data Services sold for use with AT&T RIM BlackBerry devices, and smartphones may not be used with other devices, including but not limited to, Personal Computers, PC Data Cards and the like, either by tethering devices together, by SIM card transfer or any other means.

Notice, no mention of a 5 GB limit.

Paragraph 2:
Smartphone/BlackBerry Plans with Tethering: Smartphones/BlackBerry plans with Tethering may ONLY be used with AT&T-certified RIM BlackBerry devices and smartphones for the following purposes: (i) Internet browsing; (ii) email; and (iii) intranet access (including access to corporate intranets, email, and individual productivity applications like customer relationship management, sales force, and field service automation). Smartphone/BlackBerry plans with Tethering may be used to tether such smartphone and BlackBerry devices to a Personal Computer. If you are on a data plan that does not include a monthly megabyte allowance and additional data usage rates, the parties agree that AT&T has the right to impose additional charges if you use more than 5 GB in a month. Prior to the imposition of any additional charges, AT&T shall provide you with notice and you shall have the right to terminate your service.

Ah yes, in a paragraph clearly directed to users that have a smartphone plan WITH tethering, there is a mention of a 5 GB limit.

I don't have a smartphone plan with tethering, do you?

Lesson over for today...you're tiring me out with this crap.

Geckotek is right. If you go in the data usage terms of use (the entire thing, not just what applies to iPhone users), and you do a search for "5 GB," you only find two references. One is in the DataConnect section (which is what laptops use), and the other is for smartphones/blackberries with tethering. Nothing outside of those two sections mentions a limit of any kind.

Boom, headshot!

Ahh yes, the ignore list that you just learned about and were able to use as of what, today? Likewise friend, here's to not hearing you jaw on anymore :D

Technically, per ALL wireless contracts, the carriers CAN change things with notification, if you don't cancel with in XX number of days from the time their notification was sent you can still be socked with the ETF.

Its like when Sprint started charging people with spending limits an extra $5 per month(waived with autopay). They sent out notifications over the Xmas holiday. When people bitched, which was too late for most people, they were kindly reminded they missed their chance to cancel without an ETF.

AT&T at ANYTIME can cap your data. If you dont like it you will have, I think, 30 days to cancel(it might be 60) and not face an ETF.

People are kidding themselves if you think AT&T wont put a hard cap of 5GB on the "unlimited" plans in the near future and eventually kill it off.

But the argument is this....that as of now...and in the past, there has been NO softcap. So this entire thread is pointless.
