I know most mobile carriers have a so-called 'unlimited' data plan, but then actually cap it at 5 GB.
Does anyone know if the iPhone 'unlimited' data plan is actually unlimited, or has a secret cap?
There have been reports of people getting warning emails and messages from AT&T after extensively tethering and burning up data.
.
a user here on macrumors has his girlfriend tethering and using up 10+ gb a month, so im assuming there is no cap, just a scare tactic
If we have the unlimited data plan, can't we just downgrade to the 2GB plan and later go back to the unlimited plan? Can we change when we want, as often as we want?

I agree! It is not worth the $5 savings!!!!!
I agree!
Time will tell how many people that downgraded to the 2GB plan, will be able to continue that practice with the new iPhone. I predict people will end up going well past that limit and wish they had kept the unlimited data plan.
Unofficially it's 5GB per month, changed I believe after Verizon changed this.
And in the world of people that fully read and comprehend what they are reading....you're wrong.
That's a Data Connect plan, not a Smartphone data plan.
