except it will be designed to fit the new iphone

I absolutely despise phone docks. Total waste of time. Nothing like putting your phone in the dock, realizing you need to make a phone call/receive a phone call and OH NOES! You can't! Cause pulling the phone out stops the sync/charging etc. Much, much simpler and cheaper to just use a cable. Then you can still make phone calls etc while it's plugged in!

That's my Friday Tip for you all.

yeah but i found that cable they give you to be cheaply crafted. after a while my first one got a short in it and i would have to jiggle it to get it to sync. So when i went to replace the 16 dollar cable i opted to pay the extra money and get the dock also.

I have encountered this problem myself... Wireless syncing is the solution... If apple could program the iphone torealize that there is a phone call incoming, and switch to wireless sync mode (if you're in the middle of a sync.

This issue has made my decision to not buy a dock in the future.

I have two of the older Docks with the black receiver on the front, are these going to be of no use with the iPhone 4?

Also can it charge by a firewire iPod mains charger?

I don't understand how this is any different than plugging the cable straight into the phone.

If your dock is connected to the wall outlet rather than your computer, there will be no sync. Same exact thing with the cable itself. The dock is used solely to make your phone stand up. At least that's what I thought...

I use a cable connected to my computer, and a cable by my bed. Both from Monoprice as the Apple cable is too fragile. Just a couple of bucks from Monoprice is the key.

They may offer an adapter for these.

No. The iPhone 3G and later only take chargers that run off the USB power pins.

You can buy an adapter which is a dock plug male to dock plug female that takes the firewire power pins and runs them to the USB ones with the right voltage. But it's actually cheaper to just get a new charger.

I think what he's saying is that unless you want to put your face against the dock, you're going to have a hard time making a call, whereas with the cable you can simply hold the phone to your face...

Ah. That makes sense talking about charging, but the phone quits syncing when a call comes in whether it's on a dock or a cable alone so you might as well pull it off the dock anyway.

That dock looks really weird.

I don't think that's the actual dock. The phone on the left seems to be leaning back a bit further.

I absolutely love phone docks - I use my iPhone as my alarm clock, so it's awesome to have it stand up on my nightstand. To each his own - that's my Friday tip for you.

I like this dock a lot! I like how the iPhone barely sits in the dock, so no need for the cut away at the front, a lot simpler.

Is the iPhone sort of pulled out of the dock on the first pic? It looks a bit unstable otherwise, I'm sure it's not properly inserted, perhaps due to the bumper.

Nice to see the docks are still white plastic, I almost imagined they would introduce a metal dock now!

I don't know ...

I'm wondering if someone else will come out with a better bumper to compete with Apple's?

Like even thinner?

I really wish the dock was made out of aluminum rather tha plastic. Especially considering your paying $29 for something that used to be included with the original iPhone for free.

Im sure it will charge 3G/3Gs iPhones, the only problem is the cutout not letting them fit in as the 4 is slightly thinner and more squarish.
