I know this option isn't officially available, but on my iPhone 4, Internet Tethering works.

I assume we're not meant to be able to do this, right?

Ah, ok. That didn't work for me. It asked me to call O2 when I tried to activate it. I am on a O2 simplicity contract.

Just out of curiosity, did iTunes ask you to update your carrier profile the first time you connected it? If so, did you update it? Mine did and I accepted it.

Same.

Maybe it's becuase I've an iPad SIM in it?

I've had my 3GS a year nearly and tethering on paygo o2 was greyed out! Now upgrading to ios4 a few weeks back it's been enabled! I hope o2 don't catch onto something! Unless they are now allowing it for paygo users :)

I found this too.

Perhaps it's because now there are caps on data in theory, it shouldn't matter how you use the data allowance.

However, I have a PAYG account that came with 12 months unlmited data.

Yeah I have the 12 month free webwifi bolt on too due to run out soon! Shame they stopped it with the iPhone 4 I mat goto orange as you can buy day and week passes :)
