I know this option isn't officially available, but on my iPhone 4, Internet Tethering works.

I assume we're not meant to be able to do this, right?

How did you make it work? I'm interested in it.

    Cheers!

Basically activate it through Settings -> Network -> Internet Tethering.

Ah, ok. That didn't work for me. It asked me to call O2 when I tried to activate it. I am on a O2 simplicity contract.

Just out of curiosity, did iTunes ask you to update your carrier profile the first time you connected it? If so, did you update it? Mine did and I accepted it.

Hmm. I've looked through the carrier bundle for PAYG, and, sure enough, there's not reference to Tethering, so iOS defaults to current APN for iPhone data :D

I've had my 3GS a year nearly and tethering on paygo o2 was greyed out! Now upgrading to ios4 a few weeks back it's been enabled! I hope o2 don't catch onto something! Unless they are now allowing it for paygo users :)

    I found this too.

Perhaps it's because now there are caps on data in theory, it shouldn't matter how you use the data allowance.

However, I have a PAYG account that came with 12 months unlmited data.
