People on forums don’t tend to really talk about their satisfaction. Only when something is wrong. I still think my iPhone XS is running top shelf. It will take a killer feature for me to want to upgrade.

From today's Apple earnings call: "Latest survey from 451 research indicates iPhone customer sat of 98% for iPhone 12 family."

As a rough guess reading here, 80% of posters on MacRumors are unhappy with their iPhone 12. Size, cost, PWM, yellow screen, battery life, 5G, raised blacks, stuttering, and heat all appear to be competing major reasons to return them, not buy them, disparage Apple, or switch to Android.

"The launch of the new iPhone 12 models that have all-OLED displays, edge-to-edge designs, 5G connectivity, and significant camera improvements, drove an increase in both switchers and upgraders year over year, Apple CEO Tim Cook said during today's earnings call covering the first fiscal quarter of 2021."

Both quotes are more relevant to me than the content in most threads. Very happy Mini owner who upgraded from 6S.

My observation is that Macrumours has never really been representative of the Apple’s user base in general.

I wouldn't buy an Apple computer. I do like their phones though. I also like iOS, and dislike pretty much everything Android. I do like that you can run bit torrent off of it, that's pretty cool. Mind you, I haven't seen a flagship Android phone for some time because I live in a bubble. I haven't gotten a hair cut since last April because I'm scared one of you effers are going to get me sick lol.

I own at least a dozen Apple products right now (mostly various Macs), and the iPhone is easily my least favourite. I really dislike iOS, but it talks better with my Macs than the other options on the market.

Have a little bit of everything. There are quite a few days I wish I could drop Android on my 12 ProMax or 11 ProMax. I do need to replace my Razer soon. Maybe a 1+ or Sony ....

Mac Rumours is a very small and a rather insignificant segment of users in the grand scheme. I don’t think ‘most’ iPhone/Apple consumers follow them in the depth we see here. I know most of my friends, family and associates don’t.

Oh yeah. This forum is full of whiners and me tooers. If this was the jungle at least half of the members here would die immediately. Lol. If it’s not from their too heavy 12PM, then it’s the flicker that’ll getcha.

That easily applies to most Internet forums even those aimed at survivalists.

Macrumours posters aren't really representative of reality. Most people here are tech hobbyists who upgrade annually and will find any excuse to nitpick, where as the average person where I live still owns the iphone 7.

And even on this forum I doubt that the yearly upgraders for any product make a majority.

I’ve been a member here for awhile. I’ve found that this forum has the tendency to affect my ability to enjoy my devices. Now, I’m not blaming Macrumors entirely but... I remember getting my iPad 3 and thinking how amazing it was, then... reading threads about the light bleed (which I hadn’t noticed before reading the thread) - then worrying about it, getting the iPad replaced and getting addicted to all the imperfection threads.

I’ve noticed a lot of posters tend to take the little issues they find with their device, magnify them and use it to get attention by blasting everyone who enjoys their Apple product. Whether or not they want the attention or they have an inability to enjoy a device that isn’t 100% perfect, who knows.

People love to complain and focus on the negative instead of the positive.

Another thing this forum has a tendency to do is make me want to buy more Apple products. Because of Macrumors I am now HEAVILY invested in the Apple ecosystem and have given them way more money than I ever would have without it. Apple should thank Macrumors.

I agree. The trick (so to speak) is being able to sift through the hyperbole and fluff until you find informative posts from members helping one another with a friendly side of forum mocking to go.
Yep - this is key to enjoying Macrumors - sifting through the <cough>. I’ve definitely seen a rise of outrage “clickbait” threads over the last few years. That said, there are a collection of awesome posters I follow that make this site worth every minute I spend here.

MR is a great educational reference if one is willing to put the time in to extract and learn.

For me, this doesn't apply. Apple's marketing department manages that on their own quite well. :p

Good point. Before Macrumors I didn’t even know what the Apple Keynotes were. Those things are very addictive. They’re the reason my wife and I have the AW6 and ... ok I won’t list off everything we’ve bought because of those.

Engadget was the site that introduced me to Apple. I think the OG iPhone keynote was the first one I followed.

I didn't really go into MacRumors (or any other Apple-specific sites) until 2013 and by then, I was entrenched on the iOS-side having gone through nearly annual iPhone and iPad upgrades. Of course, that was partly because the family was slowly making the switch from dumb phone to iPhone as well and they were getting my iPhone and iPad hand-me-downs.

Me too, in the shortest time.

I wouldn't say immediately but as long as there's clean water, electricity and gas, there's still the stash of rice, spam, cup noodles and breakfast items. Hmm, maybe a month or two? :p

Don’t forget hot water 😬

And at least 500kb/s connection, to make it feel like your roughing it 😎

What makes me lol is in the yellowish screen thread , some ppl were posting that their screen was perfect, and everyone follows up with "IT CANT BE! PROVE IT" 😂 or the guy who's came to a conclusion that every single iPhone this year has " black crush " or "green tint" 😂

My Mac laptops have an 8 year lifespan, and my last iPhone 5 years. Upgraded faster in the early days of both as both the hardware improved dramatically and the older software became obsolete and dysfunctional - but never yearly! Now both products are mature, and there is little compelling reasons to upgrade regularly.

However for the first time though, even before I bought the Mini first day, I knew I would be upgrading to the 13 Mini first day. The benefits are already compelling for me. Yes, the 12 battery life is fine, but I'm expecting to take long overseas camping/cycling trips where longer life will be better. The 13 will have a far better and more efficient modem, and a slightly better CPU, with both contributing to longer battery life (and better connectivity). Then there will be a number of minor enhancements sweetening the pot, like camera sensor stabilization, lidar, and most likely some sort of touch ID. That will be the phone I keep for 5+ years.

Have you ever considered a portable power/battery bank? They keep getting smaller and cheaper with larger capacities (more mAh in a smaller package) ...

Nope. Prior phones had far worse battery life than the Mini and I never needed a power pack. The Mini is the first phone I've ever had in 22 years going back to flip phones (and candy bars) that I don't plug in overnight. One hour plugged into my 5 watt charger is enough for a full day. Not adding more electronic accessories to my life.

Makes sense, people who are on MacRumors tend to be enthusiasts who may be heavier on their devices or more OCD about any little issue that arises in their device.

All my friends with iPhone 12s are very happy with their devices, and have no complaints.
