I've kept my AT&T data plan at unlimited even though I currently only use about 600-750MB/month. The trend of my usage is upwards which I imagine will continue as technology improves (apps etc). Today I read on Engadget that a one minute Facetime call on 3G takes up 3MB. This makes me wonder realistically if AT&T can support Facetime over 3G and still offer unlimited data usage (even if only to those grandfathered in). I remember reading somewhere when AT&T switched their data tiers that 90% of their customers use less than 200MB/month. Seeing that a one hour Facetime call uses about that same amount (or even half if AT&T downgrades quality of 3G), it just isn't feasible for them to offer it.
So my question becomes am I keeping my unlimited plan for a period down the road when I need it, only to find out that I won't even have that option at that point? Admittedly it is a cheap difference at only an extra $5/month, but I still would prefer the extra Abe Lincoln's in my pocket. I'm assuming that AT&T would have the right to force us to switch to 2GB or raise the unlimited price even if we are locked into a 2 year contract with them, right?
