do paid developers who use an iPod Touch device still have to pay for the OS upgrade fee, or is the cost of the OS included with the $99 developer program?

I don't think so: I can see the 3.0 GM release for iPod Touches (both 1st and 2nd generation) on the developer site.

Correct, I updated an iPod Touch for no additional fee with no problems.

I'm assuming it's the same as they treat their OS's. once the final version is made publicly available you should be able to download it from ADC with no extra charge.

Hopefully. But OS 2.0 was initially not available as a free upgrade for iPod touch developers that were accepted into the program after July 11th, 2008.

I assume too that once public release hits, you can install and remove unlike being locked into 3.0 now if you install? I am not looking to test or build against 3.0 until I can remove it if needed. I only have the one device for now and my buddies that help beta test do not want their phones locked into 3.0 yet and I don't blame them.

I don't think so. At least not officially. Apple don't seem to support going back to older version, only up to newer versions.

I decided to wait until 3.0 came out to upgrade the SDK.
    I'm a paid developer ($99).

Now that it is out I can't find any information on how to install 3.0 on my Touch 2G.

Do I now have to pat $9.99 for 3.0 because I did not participate in the 3.0 BETA?
I've spent an hour on the Apple Dev portal looking for instructions on how to install 3.0, no joy.

    Any advice?

    Thanks.

What I really want to know is should I spend $9.99 on 3.0 or can I acquire it through my delveloper program?

i haven't bought into the program yet (not until later this week probably) but i'm still very curious about this. seems like it's difficult to find a straight answer.

i hope you find it... and if you do, since it appears difficult to locate, you should tell me where it is to save me some time. :)

From the looks of it Apple has taken all 3.0 OS's off their site. I was wondering the same thing. I was really mad when I forgot to DL the GM seed but I still have beta 5 on my Touch.

I'm just totally stunned... for those like you and me who pay a whopping $99 for the program, 3.0 should be free. I lucked out and still have the 7A341 GM Seed on my Desktop :p

tell me about it... it's kind of offensive to tell you the truth... but that Apple for you

is 7A341 the same as the final release?

Yeah, I totally agree. I love Apple to death (figuratively, of course) but sometimes they are a tad bit crazy.

And yeah, 7A341 is the same as the final release. All developers who have the "GM Seed" have the final.

I went ahead and bought 3.0 for $9.99.

So if you know how I, as a developer, could have acquired 3.0 for free then now is your big chance to speak up. :)

At least someone else might benefit.

if 7A341 GM is the same as the final release, what benefit is there to take it off the developer site and only NOW charge developers with iPod Touch devices $10/device? it has to be there somewhere, otherwise it's just stupid.

Early access to the 3.0 beta was only there for developers who wanted to test their apps and get them ready before 3.0 went public.

If you didn't test and get your app ready in time for the official OS release, there's no reason for Apple to provide you 3.0 early access any more.

If you expected something other than app development support for $99, you wasted your money. Who shall we call stupid?

I see your points but thats not what were getting at here. Its kinda stupid that Apple does not just give us a copy of the iPod OS 3.0. Almost all of the developers I know (and people recommend to get a iTouch.) all have an iTouch. So paying 99$ for the documents, reference guides, and being able to put apps into the app store is well worth the 100$ but couldn't Apple of just spotted us the 10$ and gave up the OS?

... except for the new developers who bought into the program a few weeks ago and also just happened to receive the latest iPhone OS 3.0 for iPod Touch with their new membership...

... except maybe from the goodness of their heart... oh, i'm sorry, i forgot we were talking about a multi billion dollar empire... silly me!

i guess i'm stupid, since you know, i didn't buy into the program last week when the OS upgrade would have been included, and for assuming (*gasp*) that it still would have been available... you know... like it was... for weeks until this apparently important DEADLINE came to pass...

final point: when purchasing Mac OS X, developer tools are included... can you believe it, they're included in the OS at not additional cost! what a RIDICULOUS concept! perhaps apple should also include the iPhone OS upgrade for iPod Touch when developers buy into their program as well. especially since the OS is available for the iPhone for free, but i guess that's a whole other thread of rants.
