Thats interesting... wonder if they can plug it up in a ipad 1 and see what happens! It would be nice if it were double screen res.
Excellent news! If parts are available like this then a roll-out is sooner than some think. If parts are in the supply chain then they will leak just as this did. Apple might as well have an official roll-out and get on top of this. What's next the motherboards or the shell?
Exactly what I was thinking! Hopefully Feb 9 keynote!!!! Is it also possible that it might be feb 2??? (the daily keynote)
I'm sticking by my prediction of the third Tuesday of Feb. Today is the first Tuesday so three weeks from now!.
Did you forget that that was tomorrow? I doubt that Apple wouldn't even alert the media to their latest flagship product.
Isn't the media going to be there anyway? Its just a wild idea anyway.
It's not Apple's event.
Theyre going to milk the media when iPad 2 is released. They won't parasitize News corp's conference and get no attention.
Yeah, Apple is going to send the iTunes VP to what is essentially an app launch to announce the iPad 2.
Hey I said it was a wild hopeful idea!!!
Yup. Just like they sent Tim Cook to help unveil the Verizon iPhone. Both of these events are part Apple/ part <insert company>.
(in case this is a true peace of news)
Then does this mean that iPad 2 will have smaller bezel since frame of the screen is significantly smaller?
Possibly. The bezel is there for a reason, though.
yeah, I know but it makes appearance of ipad really ugly
True - to some extent. They could probably shave off a little bit...
I thought I saw some rumors back in dec saying about 3mm will be shaved off each side so it might make some difference.
One of the pics shows the part number. It's an LG 1024x768 screen.
doesn't look anti-glare in those pictures. :/
Retina Display for the iPad2 = G5 Powerbook rumors
so how much of a weight reduction does this 30-35% decrease in width translate to?
The current iPad LCD is about 150 grams (just over 5 ounces) and the glass is about 190 grams (nearly 7 ounces).
Probably not much in terms of the final weight of the device. Most of the iPad's weight is the battery.
Nope. Battery is 3rd in line, weight-wise, after glass and LCD (it weighs under 150 grams).
* Aluminum back 138 grams
* Battery 148 grams
* LCD 153 grams
* Glass (and frame) 193 grams
* Speaker: 17 grams
* Main board: 21 grams
* Everything else: 27 grams
hmm, makes me think that with a lighter screen and all the advancements Apple is always making with batteries that they may be able to cut off a considerable amount of weight from the original design...maybe only 1-1.25 lbs?
9 to 5 reports the new screen is 10 grams lighter. I would expect the battery to have some improvements too.
also they report that an iPad2 was spotted at the daily roll-out.
I've got to believe that an iPad2 roll-out is less than a month away.
