Is there any way to disable these on things like SD cards? (MS-DOS formatted) My car's radio recognizes these files but does not play them. It's annoying 😡

you do know that by deleting .ds store files you lose the color labling and any Spotlight comments you may have added right? But if you you don't use any of those then it won't matter
