I thought this was supposed to be a massive improvement over the butterfly keyboard? But it doesn't even feel THAT different to me. I was expecting it to feel like the iPad Pro magic keyboard, now that is a nice keyboard with plenty of travel. This still doesn't have that much travel. I wouldn't say it is that enjoyable of an experience, the keys still feel quite tacky instead of mushy.

Am I going mad with the keyboard difference between the MacBook and iPad keyboard? I thought they were supposed to be the same?

The IPP Magic Keyboard has a different feel than the M1. I have the new M1 MBA and it doesn't bother me to type on it, even though I got used to the IPP Magic Keyboard that does have more travel.

Try the MBP M1 - it has a better keyboard with more travel than the MBA. It was one of the reasons I picked the MBP.

Oh really? I didn’t realise that. I haven’t seen any mention of this anywhere?

Check out this thread for several reports: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/torned-between-the-mba-16gb-1tb-vs-mbp-16gb-1tb.2277998/

MBA = clearly built to a price point, generally lower quality components like screen, keyboard, speakers, etc. I personally cannot stand a soft keyboard with less travel, so am very picky about good feedback on the keys. I felt the MBA keyboard was closer to the butterfly one - softer, with a lot more noise and not enough travel.

I only see one person saying it has a better keyboard but no source, and that is also the first time I have seen it mentioned after reading many reviews and watching review videos.

Tom's Guide and Macworld both state they are identical keyboards

Or the always popular " Am I the only one who ..." 😀
I’m probably not the only person on MR who has ventured down the various rabbit holes of discussions, from “Yellow Screens” to “ PWM” via “ Face ID causes migraine” . I’ve yet to discover the discussion of the introduction of MagSafe corresponding with the new strain of COVID, but surely it’s just a matter of time

I quite like the MBA keyboard...

But I'd be lying if I didn't say that I still prefer, ever so slightly, the keyboards on the 2015 MBP's

On my desktop I still use a wired keyboard (non NumPad) from about 2011/2012 I want to say...it's very similar to the keyboard in those 2015's - LOVE it.. Love the bounce and feedback
