Hi, I understand why there is no boot screen with the Radeon 560 - rx 580 cards in a mac pro 5,1 at the moment . I was wondering, is anyone working on a rom to flash these cards ? ALSO, could you download the rom from a 27" retina 2017 imac, that has the same graphics, and flash a card with that ?? (or similarly use the rom from an imac pro to flash a vega card)

It's more complex than you are thinking.

Every Mac released after 2012/2013 uses UEFI with GOP protocol, but Mac Pro until MP5,1 uses EFI and UGA, so you can't use a module extracted from a UEFI Mac (GOP) to have pre-boot configuration/boot screens into a MP5,1 (UGA).

OK fair enough
Does that mean its impossible or that its just more difficult because you have to write the code for the rom from scratch ?
And if possible is anyone working on this at the moment ?
thanks

For sure it's possible, but for Apple/AMD, not us. NVIDIA showed that it's possible to support UGA and GOP at the same time with RTX 2xxx.

Yea I was thinking of an RTX 2070 when drivers are released for my 5,1. Right now I am very glad my GTX 680 is supported even though its an old design.
