VMman and Meistervue plus 1 on conforming 11 inch bags. Also, when it's a small bag and there's a zipper, insertion is as slow as Capt. Kirk backing the Enterprise into a space station, due to not wanting to scratch the Mac.

I gave up on buying a small bag that would just fit the 11" or an iPad because there is no way to get around it looking like a murse (i.e. man purse).

Instead, I just ordered a nice Hard Candy bubble sleeve:
http://www.amazon.com/Hard-Candy-Ca...2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1312400812&sr=1-2

Cases looks okay when carried as one would carry a book, but put shoulder straps on it, and it becomes a murse.

Exactly, I am impressed at some of the bags/sleeves some members post for their MBAs... Some look, as the thread starter stated, feminine (I know that there are also women on this forums ;) but still). I have the Hard Candy Bubble sleeve for my 13'' and it's great. I need a sleeve that is rugged and can withstand impact as it is going to travel in my college backpack.

I just picked this one up at Target for $30.

http://www.target.com/Swiss-Gear-Messenger-Bag-Grey/dp/B004GCQO8U

It's slim, light and snug. It's a sling, so it's definitely not man-bagish or even kiddish. Holds my 11" MBA and a GRID-IT! Organizer in the main pocket, perfectly holds my iPad in the back sleeve, and also holds the iPad/MBA chargers in the side pockets.

Off topic... I doubted that GRID-IT! Organizer at first, but after I tried it out, i can't imagine using anything else.

The tucano is brown nylon. Farthest thing from feminine and made to hold both.

This is the 13" but the 11" case is basically the same, just trip the sides. $60 - sorry for the poor quality on the photos, it's dark and I was lazy. I can't seem to find the case online, I Bought mine in the apple store... Maybe tucanousa but it's called something different.

OP, if you go with something not in this thread - can you post back what you are using please?

Cheers/

p.s. there is one big downside to me in the above case - no handles, only shoulder strap.

One that is minor and may not apply to anyone else.. it fits my compact camera (met or fuji x100) but it's not pretty - it's a bulger.

A) it's nothing like a murse

b) I don't really care what other people may think of the bag I carry, it just needs to be functional and look good to me.

If a women is carrying a purse that looks like that.. she has some busted taste.

@hooligan

Just having some fun with you. Some guys can pull it off, but I doubt that I could.

I have a 2010 13" air and iPad 2 and both carry well in the STM Alley. A bit big for an 11" but will definitely work and the bag isn't big by any means. Love it.

not a bag

I was wondering if anybody had found something that would not utilise a bag, ie. having an ipad and macbook air 11" going into a bag, I didn't want that.

i don't wander around needing to carry stuff all the time....just going from car to office to home....so currently have an ipad in a case that has the charging and other ports accessible, so i don't have to 'take it out' to use it. it's actually a keyboard case, the clam case... but it's not a very nice keyboard and i'm never going to find one.

i also have the basic apple smart cover which i prefer, if i give up on the ipad needing a keyboard...

and the best way to cover myself for having no keyboard, is just to get an 11" air!!!

so i'm going to buy a macbook air 11" i think, but I was hoping to kinda not make my life more complicated case-wise.

the moshi sleeve looked right but not sure if it takes the ipad too... but still requires me to pull them out and stuff.

Is there anything that is designed to hold an ipad and be able to actually USE the ipad maybe, or the macbook air, all in one case, that's not a bag, just a sleeve or case. What I'm thinking would be a ::

case/sleeve/pocket that you have the macbook air in, that you pull it out to use. but the ipad could be slid in a side pocket, with the screen facing OUT, and another flap with magnets could flop over the screen, so it's easy to still open the flap and use the ipad whist still sitting in the case. ok it would be heavy but that means for most things, the ipad is sufficient and you want to quickly do something. when you get seriously into something, you close the flap and pull out the macbook.

i thought a keyboard would solve this problem for me with the ipad but it's just not fun to use these clunky keyboards

additionally, if you wanted to go solo and whip the ipad out you could do that too, but very easy to keep everything together.

i wanna basically treat the macbook air like an ipad - don't carry the charger around with me, charge it at night on my bedstand, rather than treat it like a laptop where i have it on my desk etc.

but i don't want to lose my ipad either, for when touch makes sense or just casual browsing or games etc

any way - enough babbling

thanks for any ideas you might have

The Ristretto from Tom Bihn is a bag that can hold both along with all the cables and other stuff you might want to carry.

http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/300/TB0221

I use the 13" Version and you can pack a ton of stuff in one.

I have the 11 inch Tom Bihn Ristretto, I think you would have room for the 11" Macbook Air and also an ipad in a sleeve of some type. I am not home or I would try it for you and let you know how it fits. I can do that later tonight though and add an update.

I would recommend getting the Absolute Shoulder Strap to go with it.

I got the EULA Messenger from Timbuk2:
http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/custom#
With a Colcasac sleeve for the Air.
It's a bit of a murse. I don't really care.
You can customize the colors to make it look as feminine as you want.
I went with dark gray on the body and dark blue on the flap. I really like it.
I regularly carry a few extra things in the bag (power supplies, a hard drive, an Apogee One). This bag will fit those things plus the Air and iPad almost perfectly. My one complaint is that due to the slight tapering of the bag, the Air fits essentially right in the middle, so I sort of have to make use of the space both in front of and behind the Air. This is only a problem when I am taking more irregularly shaped stuff with me than usual, and it's really not a big deal. The ipad or a book will fit perfectly in the behind-Air space.
Although, right now I'm reading a MASSIVE 1030 page book (The Instructions by Adam Levin), and if I want to take that in the bag, it seriously limits my carrying capacity!

Padster

I love this bag. Made to carry an iPad with a great neoprene pocket, but will also hold an 11" or 13" air in a sleeve in the main compartment no problem. Manly enough too. Pricey, but the best bag I have ever owned.

smaller medium size backpack?

Any backpack suggestions for carrying the MBA, iPad and a few accessories?

It's hard to find the right size, most backpacks are too big for the new ultra lights and smaller/thinner tech gear.
