I wanted to watch a movie I own and Apple showed me a commercial for Formula One before it played. Anyone else had this happen? I’m a little upset.

It's because you don't own it; you don't own anything you view online. You have a license to view the content, not to own it outright.

Yup. Consider it a lifetime (of the service, not your actual lifespan) rental.

I watch many movies in my "library" in ATV on the ATV 4k, never had this happening.
do you have a subscription to ATV? is the movie also offered by ATV currently? I have seen this happening when I had trial subs and watched movies that ATV offered
It's not even that long; it's a licence for as long as the service has the rights to that content.
