On Windows I use Goldendict:

It is great because it allows me use different dictionaries at the same time. I've downloaded several glossaries with "BGL" format and use them on the app.

Unfortunately, Goldendict is not on Mac and I'm looking for a similar dictionary app that allows you use several dictionaries and recognizes BGL. I checked the dictionary app that was pre-installed on my Macbook, but it doesn't support BGL format glossaries.

What about converting Babylon Glossaries (.bgl) to AppleDict (.dictionary)?
You could also try to build GoldenDict from source:
Or just try, if these binaries are working for you:

How might I go about doing that? I wonder why no one has ever done this for Mac.

But I want it for M1 Macbook.
It’s working on Apple Silicon too, macOS 12.6 (21G115)
Right-click and Open the app.

As I can't test it on Apple Silicon, I also think Rosetta should handle the latest early access build for Mac on ARM architecture. With Rosetta 64-bit Intel code can run on Apple processors.

Some more recent binaries and how to compile it on Mac can be found here:

However, always use non official binaries with caution and better build your own. There is a discussion about fraudulent builds on Github.

I get this error and notification each time I open Goldendict:

Is there a way I can get rid of these two and not see them each time I open the dictionary?

Don’t run the app from the dmg, copy it into Applications, right-click and open first time.

Have you seen this?

Use with caution! You will be overriding some built-in security features of macOS. I have a few applications on my Mac that require this action on first-run or after updates, so I can verify the override works. The need to do this, however, has become a lot less common over the last couple of years.

For Notifications, the popup should stop appearing after you dismiss the popup. If not, go to System Preferences/Notificatiions & Focus and try changing the settings for the program in question.

ETA: Ventura might change how this works.
