Damn Men... you beat my poor little Nehalem Mac Pro 2.26GHz 8-Core by 670MHz dude... I'm jealous for not purchasing it online... i've could have got the 2.93GHz too.. oh well... i just saved fiew bucks for the next generation Mac Pro.

I hope next time they change the cheese grater into something that is very cute looking.

The cheese grater is too HotRoad for me.

Just saw the flickr photos nice!

But what shocked me was, NO 24" LED ACDS!?!?

At least make one of the two displays your "main" display with the 24" LED ACD!

I know I only have a mere mac mini but I love my display more than anything!

Yeah dude... Those dell monitors will give you the feeling and experience of a Windows PC or a Hackintosh. The Apple LED cinema display is worth it if you want a true pure Mac experience.

About the fan noise, I haven't really done what you'd call "pushing it" (most strenuous being probably Half-Life 2: Episode 2 turned up all the way), but the loudest part of the computer has so far been the hard drive.

whats the fan noise level like without pushing it. ie, at idle.. say compared to a 3870 (if you've heard one). or is the 4870 pretty much silent

Very loud on boot up then silent. The superdrive is very loud though :).

All the people posting with strange sound issues seem to be on 2.26 GHz octos.

Yep, just a very light sound. Generally, as has been said about previous models, the loudest part of it is the hard drive when it is writing. It does spin up at boot, but as soon as that is done, it goes back to being insanely quiet again.

Yes... the hard drive is noisy on a silent room. But it gets silent after opening multiple apps.

It is normal for every Mac Pro. The clicking noise is from a pin in the hard disk. The noise is naturally emitted when the pin is searching information on hard. So, unless it makes continuous noise without stopping, it is normal.

When the machine is moved while it is performing, the pin in the hard disk is automatically replaced to safety zone to protect the hard disk from damages. So if the noise appeared when the machine is moved, it is normal

I think the best solution is to go Solid State Drive.

thats awesome. wonder if it will be just as quiet when installed in an 2008 MP

Actually I can't stand glossy LCDs.
To the OP: congrats to your dream becoming true.

After all those speculation thread conversations it's good to see this actually happening. Congrats on your new system! I just got my 2.26 on Tuesday after swearing for six months "when those Nehalem MPs come out, I will pull the trigger" so we're a bit on the same boat.

Very good to hear. Initially I plan to have mine on the floor, but depending on space available I would like to move it up on to the table beside my monitors. Right now space restrictions more than anything complicate that plan.

Again congratulations on a beautiful machine.

*These threads are making the wait on mine very hard. :)*

What monitors are those? I understand that they sport the better screen, but not sure what the brand is from the pics. I'd be curious to check them out.

Also, I don't understand exactly why you went with the 2 vid cards. I know it can't be just to run the 2 monitors. Just curious.

thanks

Honestly, i think those monitors are ugly and doesn't match the Mac Pro's setup. I think they are Dells. I could be wrong.

I don't think they're dells. the logo is doesn't look dell to me, but I can't read what they are.

He has Samsung displays.

You guys need better monitors or better eyes.
I'd imagine the latter.

The monitors are made by SOYO, and they're a "TOPAZ" model; most likely model "S".
Note: I see that without a problem on a MB screen from a tiny flickr photo, and my eyes are -6.50. Get yours checked.

Tallest Skil first of all Congrats on your new Mac Pro and the reason that I thought you waited a bit because of the news that 2009 Mac Pro's are going to have other speed bump refresh to a 3.2GHz "Nehalem" processors with Nvidia Quadro FX 5600 later this year, I guess I was wrong. You need a new desk, like jjahshik32 mention why not get the 24 inch LED Cinema, two of those will look insane next to a Mac Pro or are you waiting for Apple to release the new 30 inch? but anyways have a great time using your dream machine.

Still prefer the S-IPSs :p

Actually wouldn't mind upgrading to a couple ColorEdge CG301W once i got the cash, think they'll look fantastic on my wall!!

The only problem with the 30" Eizos is that they have a cooling fan (the SX3031W definitely does, and given that the CG301 has the same casing, it's a good bet that it does too).
