A dumb question

If I am setting up my new iPhone and still have my old one... I know I have options on how to move data from one to the other.

I can use my iCloud back up or transfer directly from phone to phone.

If I choose the phone to phone... do I take the SIM card out of the old phone and then put it into new phone before selecting option to transfer from one phone to the other? Or do I leave it in the old phone, transfer to new phone and then take SIM card out of old phone and put in new phone once the data has been transferred?

I think you can insert the SIM whenever you want, but I always move it to the new device once all the data as been transferred.
