Spring-loaded folders, "spring" open when you click > drag > hover over a folder(s). :)
I still don't get it...Man I feel like an idiot.
EDIT: I figured it out! I never noticed that before. Is that an Apple innovation?

Yes, Apple folders have operated like that for a long time. I know when you are used to Windows one would never think of such a thing.

That Windows Junk has truly ruined my life!
I'm so glad I wised up 5 months ago and switched! I've never been happier. :D
What other things should I know about Mac, other than these cool folders?

Yeah Windows is garbage, yet the world runs on it. Apple has some good plans I am sure. A lot of things Steve Jobs says does/advertises is for the iPod, but trust me the Mac is foremost in his plans. The iPod benefits the Mac. He knows this.

Any way you ask a very broad question. All I can say is stay tuned/read Macrumors.

I used to be a Windows whore myself :(

If you add a file to a folder my clicking and dragging the file on-top of that folder. While you are holding the file above the folder the folder opens part way.

I agree. Steve Jobs knows what he's doing. I think he is the best thing that ever happened to Apple.

Spotlight is very cool, even if you don't use it much it's great to have (since Google Desktop is not for Mac.) One thing I notice is that it's not as fast as advertised, it always takes a few seconds for results to show up, or for the search to complete.

Dashboard is nifty and I use it, but it's not a critical feature.

Expose really trumps both IMO, although Spotlight is very close. Expose is something I use constantly (I know its before Tiger, but just using it for comparison.)

Being a big fan of quicksilver I was really exited about spotlight - which I am exactly as happy with as expected. I think it's super.

On the other hand I didn't expect much from dashboard - had tried Konfabulator and didn't think much of it. But it has far surpassedd my expectations... I still think it's more fun than practical, but that's just what makes my powerbook a little bit more like home, hehe... I use it for my dayly fix of Doonesbury and Egoland (Danish strip that a friend of mine made a widget, especially for me). I keep an eye on the visitors of my blog. And I use wikipedia from there...

Now Automater si something I really need to get going with. I was very exited about it, but haven't used it one single time - and it seems I'm not the only one.

If Spotlight worked a bit quicker on my Mac mini I would probably use it more - I find it frustrating typing something then seeing the results ever so slowly appear.

I have a "Todays Files" Smart Folder just to help me find things I've seen recently but forgot where I put them.

Dashboard I use probably at least once every ten minutes with it set to a hot corner. Ideal for quickly checking world times, seeing the weather forecast, quickly doing a calculation - and one of my favourites, Sunlit Earth - I quite like seeing the night creep across the world!

Get into it. I was scared of it at first but now I love it. It handles menial tasks so well. :)

I find dashboard very useful, I dont really think its a fad. Reason I don't use it all that much is because its a RAM sucker. I hate that. Also, I think spotlight could be 10 times better... Anyone notice how you can search "Photosh" and get PhotoShop on the list, but you can't search "otoshop"? Thats stupid. I know its been discussed on these boards before and I really wish Apple would fix this, as sometimes I know what file ends with, but not how it begins... Really annoying...
Get QuickSilver... :)

Other than Applespider's suggestion of renaming photo files... what else is it good for? I'm not savvy enough for Automator. :(

i am going to have to agree with posters who haven't gotten much use out of spotlight, but use dashboard all the time. the weather widget is the main draw for me, but sometimes i also find myself using calculator, my itunes lyrics widget, and the yellow pages.

i've always wanted to try automator, but i find i can rename files quicker myself...although then again, i've never actually tried. sounds like a good sunday project.

Well, if I can use it then anyone can. I was a bit intimidated by the interface at first and I didn't like how powerful it was. I didn't want to find myself renaming system files or something and then restarting to a wrecked Mac. :(

So far I've just used it for renaming files in bulk (not necessarily photos) and importing and exporting from iMovie. It's all stuff that is very menial but Automator means that I effectively only have to do it once. :)

I haven't got into Smart Folders yet. I use their equivalents in iTunes and iPhoto but it just seems kinda pointless in Finder. I mean, Spotlight's fine for me. :)

Yeah I have to agree, love spotlight and am not using dashboard much anymore. In fact I only use 3 widgets as I find it a memory resource hog, even with 768mb of ram.

As for smart folders I have only used it in mail and iTunes, never in Finder. I find I just organise my folders very well and know the central locations of every thing I have installed.

Also is it just me or have people used spotlight to open up apps, documents and etc. I find it simpler to hit the apple + space bar and doing a quick search, then going through finder and multiple folder and scrolling.

OMG I think I know what smart folders are. Aren't they where you put in the comment box, keywords, and stuff so you can find it easier?

No that would be a spotlight feature. Smart folders are like smart playlists in iTunes. Best way to explain it is to just make a smart folder to see. Just go into Finder then File > New Smart Folder :)
